Thin and defect-free Pd-based composite membrane without any interlayer and substrate penetration by a combined organic and inorganic process.

A novel combined organic and inorganic process for preparing thin supported membrane was developed, using which a thin and defect-free Pd membrane with uniform thickness of 5 microm was directly coated onto porous alpha-Al2O3 hollow fiber without any interlayer and substrate penetration; at the same time, there existed a small interstice between membrane and substrate, which led to higher hydrogen permeance, infinite selectivity, and better membrane stability.

[Effects of lead stress on anti-oxidative enzyme activities and isoenzymes in cucumber seedlings].

With hydroponics and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), this paper studied the effects of lead stress on the activities of peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), and their isoenzymic band numbers in cucumber seedlings. The results showed that the isoenzymic bands and expression quantity of POD decreased gradually with increasing lead concentration. The SOD activity increased with increasing lead concentration within the range of 0-500 mg Pb x L(-1), reached the maximum at 7th day, and then decreased rapidly, being lower than the control of the same period. Under the concentration of 900 mg Pb x L(-1), the SOD activity decreased with time. The isoenzymic bands and expression quantity of SOD were negatively related to lead concentration. No significant change was observed in the isoenzymic bands of CAT, but a significant difference was found in the expression quantity of CAT isoenzymes.

Thin Pd membrane prepared on macroporous stainless steel tube filter by an in-situ multi-dimensional plating mechanism.

The big surface pores of a porous stainless steel (PSS) tube filter with marked roughness were jammed with aluminium hydroxide gel by a combination of ultrasonic vibration and vacuum suction, then a thin dense Pd membrane (6 microm) was plated in-situ on this pre-jammed filter by a multi-dimensional plating mechanism; after recovering the substrate pores by high temperature treatment, higher H2 permeance and complete H2 selectivity were obtained.

Piezoelectric micromotor based on the structure of serial bending arms.

This paper presents a new piezoelectric micromotor based on the structure of serial bending arms. Serial bending arms are composed of two piezoelectric bimorphs with one end fixed and the other end free, driven by two signals of a biased square wave with a phase difference of pi/2. The free end of a cantilever arm will move along an elliptic orbit so that the cantilever is used to drive a cylinder rotor. The rotor's end surface contacts the free end of the cantilever, resulting in the rotor's rotation. There are six serial bending arms anchored on the base. The driving mechanism of the micromotor is proposed and analyzed. A new micromotor prototype, 5 mm in diameter, has been fabricated and characterized. The maximum rotational speed reaches 325 rpm, and the output torque is about 36.5 microNm.
