The singlet-triplet gap in trimethylenmethane and the ring-opening of methylenecyclopropane: a multireference Brillouin-Wigner coupled cluster study.

We performed an ab initio study of the singlet-triplet gap in trimethylenmethane (TMM) and of the ring-opening of methylenecyclopropane by the multireference BWCC method. Since the singlet states of TMM and intermediates between TMM and methylenecyclopropane have a strong multiconfigurational character, it is necessary to use a multireference method. The cc-pVDZ and cc-pVTZ basis sets were used. We compared our results with experiments, where available, and with previous calculations performed by MCSCF and spin-flip coupled-cluster-type methods.

Ab initio nonadiabatic dynamics study of ultrafast radiationless decay over conical intersections illustrated on the Na3F cluster.

We present a theoretical approach for the ultrafast nonadiabatic dynamics based on the ab initio molecular dynamics carried out "on the fly" in the framework of the configuration interaction method combined with Tully's surface hopping algorithm for nonadiabatic transitions. This approach combined with our Wigner distribution approach allows us to perform accurate simulations of femtosecond pump-probe spectra in the systems where radiationless transitions among electronic states take place. In this paper we illustrate this by theoretical simulation of ultrafast processes and nonradiative relaxation in the Na(3)F cluster, involving three excited states and the ground electronic state. Furthermore, we show that our accurate simulation of the photoionization pump-probe spectrum is in full agreement with the experimental signal. Based on the nonadiabatic dynamics at high level of accuracy and taking into account all degrees of freedom, the nonradiative lifetime for the 1 (1)B(1) excited state of Na(3)F has been determined to be approximately 900 fs.

Multireference Brillouin-Wigner coupled clusters method with noniterative perturbative connected triples.

We developed and implemented the state-specific Brillouin-Wigner coupled cluster method with singles, doubles, and noniterative perturbative triples, called MR BWCCSD(T), for a general number of closed- and open-shell reference configurations. To assess the accuracy of the method, we performed calculations of the three lowest electronic states of the oxygen molecule and of the automerization barrier of cyclobutadiene. For the oxygen molecule, the results were in a good agreement in comparison with those of the iterative MR BWCCSDTalpha method. For cyclobutadiene, the effect of connected triples was found to be minor, which is in agreement with the previous study by and Balková and Bartlett [J. Chem. Phys. 101, 8972 (1994)].

Towards the multireference Brillouin-Wigner coupled-clusters method with iterative connected triples: MR BWCCSDT-alpha approximation.

We developed and implemented an approximation of the state-specific Brillouin-Wigner coupled-cluster method with singles, doubles, and triples, called MRBWCCSDT-alpha, for a general number of closed- and open-shell reference configurations. The accuracy of the method is assessed on the calculation of the oxygen molecule in the X3sigma(g-), a1delta(g), and b1sigma(g+) states and the results of this multireference treatment are compared with previous MRBWCCSD results and with those obtained by the doubly ionized similarity transformed equation-of-motion CCSD and multireference configuration interaction methods and with experimental spectroscopic data. Explicit tests of the size-extensivity of the MRBWCCSDT-alpha method with iterative size-extensivity correction are also performed.

Observation and theoretical description of periodic geometric rearrangement in electronically excited nonstoichiometric sodium-fluoride clusters.

We present two-color fs pump-probe spectra of Na2F which were recorded by employing excitation wavelengths around 1208 nm (pump) and ionization wavelengths around 405 nm (probe). The observed oscillatory structure of the signal with a period of 185 fs shows an excellent agreement with our simulated spectra. The employed ab initio Wigner distribution approach provides clear evidence that this observation is caused by photoinduced metal bond breaking followed by a butterfly-type periodic geometric rearrangement.
