Epidemiology of syphilis in Bulgaria, 1990-1998.

There have been great political, social and economic changes in Bulgaria since 1990 with higher incidences of syphilis when compared with the previously controlled morbidity of syphilis. There has been a 7-fold increase in 1998 compared with 1990. The male/female ratio remained the same 1.2:1. A higher number of cases was reported in cities than in villages and small towns, 80.68% in 1990; 73.4% in 1998. The number of employed patients with syphilis has decreased during the years--from 75.5% in 1990 to 44% in 1998, with a corresponding increase in syphilis in the unemployed. The age group at highest risk is 20-24 years, 28.7% in 1991; 24% in 1998. The least affected group are those older than 55--the incidence being 6.34% in 1990; 2.6% in 1997 and 4% in 1998. The prevalence of the different stages of early infection remained the same. The incidence of congenital syphilis increased from 1 in 1990 and 1991 to 21 in 1996, 29 in 1997 and 35 in 1998.

[The structure and function of an automated system for predicting neonatal body weight (the Sinodeta P/1)].

The structure and function of an automated nosometric system, created by the authors, for prognosis of the risk of delivery of a child with low weight is described. The system is designed for health services, which give direction to parturient (public health sectors) and obstetric wards without technique and specialists for management of such children. The summarized extract is made on 883 cases, but verification--on 463 cases. The total effectiveness of the system is 82.1% against 66.25% of exact results during intuitive prognosis.

[Nozometric algorithms in stomatology].

The intensive development of medical informatics and cybernetics led to the creating of an impressive mathematical apparatus, associated with algorithmization of medical activities and processes. In that aspect, special attention is paid to the nozometric algorithms, applied in the most responsible medical field--therapeutic-diagnostic process. The existing nozometric algorithms are reviewed, with consideration given to the specificity of the stomatological diagnostics. An algorithm set has been systematized that is recommended for use in the field of stomatology.

[The rational coding of stomatological data].

The introduction of the computer technique in the stomatological science and practice actualized the problems of coding of stomatological information. The material presented discusses the problems of devising of optimal code system, intended for the stomatological symptomatics. An original mode for semipontional coding is proposed. Basic characteristics of the code system are described, stressing up its main advantages.
