[Gorlin-Goltz syndrome].

We present here a case of a patient with Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome treated and followed up for more than 22 years. During the evolution of the disease, we have noted a severe development of symptoms that necessitated the resection of multiple face and trunk basalioms, as well as numerous maxillary keratocysts. One of the cysts has presented the histologic characteristics of an ameloblastic fibroma. Later on, the growth of a squamous cell carcinoma required a partial mandibular resection, primary reconstruction (with AO-plate) and postoperative radiotherapy. Afterwards, a relapse in the symphysar region necessitated, in spite of the presence of lung metastases, another resection of the same region including part of the lower lip with secondary reconstruction by the means of a myocutaneous flap (PMM). A review of the main features of this syndrome has been carried out. With the help of a literature review, all the similar cases already published are here presented and discussed. Furthermore, our therapeutic concept concerning this syndrome is briefly discussed.

The antitumor activity of di-n-butyltin(IV) glycylglycinate, and the correlation with the structure of dialkyltin(IV) glycylglycinates in solution studied by conductivity measurements and by infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and Mössbauer spectroscopic methods.

The in vivo activity of Bu2nSnGlyGly, Na(Cl2GaGlyGly), and ClGaGlyGly (GlyGly2- = glycylglycinate) has been investigated in connection with a number of tumors. Positive results have been obtained only for the Bu2nSnIV complex in the case of leukemia P-388. In order to try to interpret the pharmacological data on a molecular basis, the nature of the species present in solutions of AlK2Sn GlyGly complexes, as well as the reactivity of aqueous Me2SnGlyGly, have been studied. The presence of chelated species (I), Figure 1, in organic solvents, and the equilibrium (I) in equilibrium (II), Figure 1, in water and mixed water-organic solvent systems, have been inferred from conductance measurements, as well as from studies by Mössbauer (in frozen solution), 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR, and ir spectroscopy. Moreover, solvated (II) would release AlK2SnIV moieties, as evidenced by the slow formation of (Me2SnO)n from aqueous Me2Sn GlyGly. The involvement of (I) and (II) in the transportation of these drugs across cell membranes is discussed.

[Computerized tomography in the follow-up of skull and brain injuries].

We are reporting on the necessity in CT follow-ups in neurotraumatized patients. According to our large number of patients with severe head trauma, the indication for repeated CT-scans has arrisen as follows: 1. In unconscious patients showing no improvement in their status within the first days and with a hemorrhagic contusion in their initial CT. 2. In neurotraumatized patients with multiple injuries which necessitate a respirator treatment with sedation and relaxation. The same applies for patients with primary severe brain edema which requires respirator treatment with sedation and relaxation to lower the intracranial pressure. 3. During the postoperative course in order to visualize the intracranial situation.

[Comparison of different methods of treatment of per- and subtrochanteric femoral fractures].

In the time between 1970 and 1977 142 patients, 72% older than 75 years, with per- and subtrochanteric fractures of the femur were treated operatively; 38 cases with AO-angle-plates, 53 cases with Küntscher-nails and 51 cases with Ender-nails. Regarding peroperative blood loss, early mobilization and days of hospitalization, it was the group of Ender-nail treated patients which showed the most favorable results.
