[Treatment experiments with glucose-induced hyperglycaemia plus Clostridium-spores on the Jensen sarcoma of rats].

Investigations Jensen's sarcoma-bearing Wistar rats demonstrate the possibility to increase significantly the oncolytic effect of an apathogenic strain of Clostridium butyricum (5 x 10(8) spores of Cl. oncolyticum M 55 i.v.) by an artificial short time hyperglycaemia (achieved maximum blood level of glucose 28.87 +/- 8.05 mmol/l). The most impressive effect was observed after a repeated application of this combination at a distance of 7 days. Both the hyperglycaemia and the application of spores have a high tumour selectivity and a relatively good compatibility. The consequence for estimations of the LDH-, ALAT- and ASAT-activity in the judgment of the therapeutical tumours damage rate is discussed.

Alloxan

[Profile and tasks of a medical university polyclinic in the past and present using as example the Medical Polyclinical Institutes of the Karl Marx University of Leipzig].

After a short survey of the historical development of the Medico-Policlinical Institute of the Karl Marx University Leipzig tasks and developmental tendencies of university medical policlinics are described, evaluating hereby the results of the Vth conference of higher education. They are understood as a university representation of ambulatorily working internists and to a large extent of the specialists for general medicine. Their main tasks consist in education and continued professional training of this group of physicians under integrative description of the whole subject internal medicine, a research oriented to practice as well as a guiding and coordination function for the ambulatory internistic care, taking into particular consideration the early recognition of a disease, in primary and secondary prevention as well as in a scientifically based ambulatory therapy of epidemiologically important diseases.

Germany, East

[Hyperthyroidism and anemia].

In a random test of 100 patients with hyperthyroidism with clinical and paraclinical ascertainment of the diagnosis in 38 cases normo-hypochromic, normocytary anaemias of different expression were found. In the patients with anaemia the serum hormone values were statistically significantly higher than in the 62 patients without anaemia. Also cardiotoxic and hepatotoxic findings were more frequently to be proved in patients with anaemia. A causal iron deficiency, deficit of vitamin B12 or folic acid as well as a haemolytic component of the induction of anaemia could vastly be excluded. By means of the treatment of the basic disease and metabolic balance a normalisation of hemoglobin was achieved without additional medication. From the results of the examinations is concluded that above all a thyreotoxic damage is responsible for the development of the anaemia. In cases of oligo-symptomatic hyperthyroidism part from hepatotoxicity and cardiotoxicity also anaemias may become a leading symptom.

[Influence of artificial hyperglycaemia on selected clinico-chemical parameters of Wistar-rats with Jensen's sarcoma (author's transl)].

By means of usual laboratory methods was investigated, whether glucose-induced hyperglycaemia -- applied within diagnostical and therapeutical conceptions (e.g. combined treatment with nonpathogenic clostridial spores) -- causes disturbances of organ functions in healthy and Jensen's sarcoma bearing rats or not. In this manner especially damages of liver, kidneys and muscular system were excluded with high probability. Possibilities of pathophysiological interpretation of the results as well as the question of usefulness of LDH-activity estimation for the judgement of tumour damage are discussed.

Alanine Transaminase

[Serum activity of leucine aminopeptidase in lymphotropic infections and in malignant lymphomas].

Increases of the leucine aminopeptidase according to data of literature are regarded as a sensitive parameter of lesions in liver diseases. In patients with active generalised lymphadenitis (viral infections, toxoplasmosis) as a typical enzyme constellation a relatively strong leucine aminopeptidase increase in the serum with missing or relatively slight enzyme deviation of the transaminases could be found. The quotient of the activities of LAP/ALAT was clearly above that of inflammatory liver diseases. In chronic lymphatic leukosis, plasmocytoma and malignant lymphomas the leucine aminopeptidase serum activities were within the normal. Increases of leucine aminopeptidase in lymphotropic infections are probably partly of extrahepatic origin.

Humans

[Action of clostridial spores on transplantation tumors in alloxan-diabetic rats (author's transl)].

With the intention to improve the up to now unsatisfying effectiveness of tumour treatment by clostridial spores, the influence of Alloxan-induced hyperlglycemia on clostridial therapy in two transplantable tumours of the rat are examined. Contrary to the isolated clostridial application the combined treatment causes a significant improvement of therapeutic effects (tumour-necrosis and -liquefaction, decreased growth-rate-quotient). The examination of antibody titers against clostridial rods shows in animals with Alloxan-diabetes a more early and more powerful increase in comparison with the isolated clostridial application. The importance of these results for therapy and serological diagnosis of malignant tumours is discussed.
