[Neurophysiologic changes during the treatment of endogenous depression by reflexotherapy].

Superficial EEG and visual evoked potentials (EP) were studied in 28 patients with endogenous depression treated with reflexotherapy in order to study the neurophysiological correlates of its therapeutic action. A stepwise development of reflexotherapeutic effect was determined. The first stage is that of unspecific activation EEG and EP changes correlating with activating and stimulating clinical effects. At the 2nd stage clinical improvement with proportional reduction of all the components of depressive syndrome run parallel to the normalization of neurophysiological indices.

[The temporal correlates of evoked potentials from the visual and motor cortices in affective states].

Peak latencies (PLs) of seven isopolar components of the evoked potentials (EPs) of the occipital and central areas in patients with different extent of depressions with the predominance of alarm or anguish affects were compared with healthy ones. In alarm affect the differences in PLs of EP components dominant in the occipital areas while in anguish affect they prevail in the central cortical zones.

[Amplitude-temporal parameters of the evoked potentials of the visual and motor areas in the visual perception and mental representation of an image].

Amplitude-temporal analysis was carried out of the EP components of the visual and motor areas elicited by neutral (diffuse light) and structural (checker board pattern) stimuli in different situations, defined by instruction. Interserial comparisons showed that at any instruction, the latency of the first EP component of the motor areas is reduced; as a result it can appear here simultaneously with the EP of the visual areas. At the instruction involving the subject in the process of active change of perception, activation of the right hemisphere, including the motor area, is manifest by EP parameters, while the right occipital area is activated in response to the structural stimulus, and the left one--in response to the neutral stimulus. At complication of the stimulus or instruction, the period is prolonged when the latency of EP components of the motor area is shorter than the latency of the isopolar components of the visual area--from 120 to 150 ms in response to the neutral stimuli and the neutral with their counting; from 90 to 150 ms in response to the structural stimuli; from 80 to 210 ms in response to the neutral stimuli with mental representation of the structural one.

[Interhemispheric asymmetry according to evoked potential parameters in patients with depression].

In depressive patients with different degrees of severity of the disorder hemispheric differences of the occipital and central EP peak amplitude and latency were estimated under the conditions of presentation of a neutral light stimulus, structural stimulus, and mental reproducing the structural stimulus during presentation of the neutral one. Affective responses to the stimuli were also taken into account. In non-psychotic depression hemispheric asymmetry was observed in all responses studied being correlated with the dominant affect. In anxiety most of the EP components were higher in the right hemisphere; in sad affect they were higher in the left hemisphere. In psychotic depression, irrespective of the dominant affect, EP characteristics were higher in the right hemisphere.
