Balloon catheters. In vitro experiments on pressure influence and risk of rupture.

Balloon catheters with latex balloons were inflated in plastic tubes of different diameters. The volume at rupture of the balloons was measured. The pressure inside the balloon and that caused by the balloon against the tube walls were recorded. Measures to avoid high pressure on the vessel wall, and balloon rupture, are discussed.

Angiotensin effect in the human kidney.

The renal effect of angiotensin has been recorded in patients by determination of variations in the length of the kidney and by selective injection of contrast medium into the renal artery with special angiographic techniques. The experiments demonstrate the rapid onset of the angiotensin effect on the renal vessels. The effect on kidney length was considerably prolonged compared with the vascular effect.

Physical characteristics of barium contrast media and their influence on roentgen image information.

Various barium contrast media intended for radiographic examinations of the colon were analysed in a plastic model. This model contained fixed test objects which could be identified and counted on the films thus providing a measure of image information obtainable. Particular attention was paid to the marked differences in sedimentation of the various contrast media and the manner in which these affected image information.

Injection device for pharmaco-angiography.

A device for injections of vasoactive agents at angiography connected with an injector for contrast medium and a film changer is described. It enables the examination to be performed according to predetermined data with a high degree of reproducibility. It lends itself particularly to experimental investigations of pharmacologic effects within various vascular areas.
