Implementing an immunization program in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The immunization of children less than two years old is a priority with several organizations involved in health care. The infants in the intensive care nursery and their parents provide a ready population with whom to implement immunization programs. This article reviews the importance of immunizations for the newborn and their appropriateness in the intensive care setting. Suggestions are also made for implementing this concept in the normal new-born nursery, utilizing Lewin's change theory.
