[Results of a screening for colorectal carcinoma.--A field-trial in the town Mölln (author's transl)].

3627 residents of the city of Mölln aged over 40 years and 1116 guests in this town returned a letter with test material to detect occult blood in faeces and a special questionnaire. The rate of this population who participated in this field study were 42,1% for men and 42,0% for women. The hemo-FEC-test were positive in 176 persons. Signs of colorectal diseases were revealed in 645 individuals by the questionnaire. However, the diagnostic procedures which are necessary consequences were performed in 122 respectively 143 persons only. There were 15 carcinomas and 95 adenomas in 49 patients. These figures correspond to 34,4% of the gastroenterological examined and hemo-FEC-positives, and 4,9% of the individuals with signs in the questionnaire, or 0,89% of all participants.

["Malabsorptive" dermatitis herpetiformis. A study with particular regard to biopsy findings of the small intestine (author's transl)].

21 patients (6 females and 15 males) with Dermatitis herpetiformis have been studied with special considerations of the small intestinal biopsy-findings. During this investigation the patient's mean age was 45 years (20-68) and the mean age at onset was 38 years (17-64). In 5 patients (23.8%) total villous atrophy (group I) and in 4 patients (19.0%) a severe partial or subtotal villous trophy (group II) was found on small intestinal biopsy. The sprue-like changes were patchy lesions. Histocompatibility-antigens of type HLA-AL were found in 38.1% and of type HLA-B8 in 47.6%. After 20 years of the disease one patient died of a malignant lymphoma of the intestine (immunoblastic sarcoma). In all patients the number of interepithelial lymphocytes in the small bowel mucose was significantly increased, as it was in those patients with a normal villous pattern (group III). In a quantitative analysis of specifically labeled (peroxidase-anti-perosidase complex) IgG-, IgA- and IgM-cells in the intestinal mucosa it was found that the number of all three plasma cell classes are increased significantly (P less than 0.01).

[The influence of catecholamines and sekretin on the serum-gastrin-concentration in rabbits (author's transl)].

27 rabbits underwent infusion of epinephrine, norepinephrine and secretin. Gastrin concentration patterns were determined in serum before, during and after the infusion. There were no significant increases during epinephrine and norepinephrine infusion. During secretin and a combined secretin-epinephrine infusion there was a significant rise in serum gastrin concentration. The gastrin secretion pattern in rabbits influenced by catecholamines and secretin is in complete contrast to human conditions. That means that rabbits can only be used with a certain reserve in gastroenterologiccal experiments.

[Immunoblastic sarcoma (reticulum-cell sarcoma) of the gastro-intestinal tract in a case of dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring (author's transl)].

In a 43-year-old man who for 20 years was known to have dermatitis herpetiformis there co-existed, since 1974, a "dermatogenic enteropathy" with gastro-intestional symptoms. Several small-intestine biopsies demonstrated severe partial to subtotal villous atrophy with crypt hyperplasia, as seen in gluten-sensitive enteropathy. At post-mortem there was an immunoblastic sarcoma - so-called reticulum-cell sarcoma - in the upper jejunum and abdominal lymph-nodes, which was presumably the immediate complication of the sprue-like lesions of the small intestines.

[Investigations on the ultrastructural pathology of the ulcerative colitis (author's transl)].

The ultrastructural pathology of ulcerative colitis was investigated on a group of 37 colitis patients. Among the epithelial changes, the alterations of the microvilli and of the glycocalyx of the surface epithelium are quite evident. These alterations may possibly be understood as a morphological substrate of a partly impaired "mucosa block" of the surface epithelium (IgA- and "secretory piece" deficiency). Hypothetically, this partly impaired "mucosa block" is considered to be an essential pathogenetic moment of ulcerative colitis. The inflammatory infiltrate of the stratum proprium mucosae is characterized in particular by numerous lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. The close topographical interrelation of these cells observed here seems to indicate a functional cooperation in the auto-immunological process, as it is discussed here in connection with ulcerative colitis.

[The Heidelberg capsule, an antacid of improved galenics].

By means of the Heidelberg capsule the influence of two different antacids on the acidity of gastric juice was measured in 16 normal test subjects. The antacidic combination drugs were Roha salt tablets (RSTB) containing herba absinthii 1.9 mg; fruct. anisi 35.5 mg; rhiz. calami 22.2 mg; bolus alba 14.0 mg; calcium phosphoricum 53.3 mg; magnesium sulfuricum 41.1 mg; calcium carbonicum 70.0 mg; magnesium carbonicum 42.0 mg; sodium bicarbonicum 1120 mg, and Roha gastric tablets (RMTB) with retarded release and containing fruct. anisi 40 mg; herba absinthii 3.2 mg; calcium carbonicum 688 mg; sodium bicarbonicum 480 mg; magnesium carbonicum 40 mg. Compared to the simple antacid RSTB, the duration of the neutralizing effect of the retarded RMTB was prolonged significantly by 300%.
