[Electron immunocytochemistry of lymphocyte surface immunoglobulins in the bursa of Fabricius in the pre- and early postnatal ontogeny of chickens].

The appearance and localization of surface immunoglobulins on B-lymphocytes of the bursa of Fabricius of developing chick embryos and chicks were studied by immuno-electron-cytochemical peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method. Ultrastructural characteristics of marked and unmarked lymphocytes of the bursa of Fabricius was shown. The increase in the density of reaction product on PAP-complex in the course of lymphocytes differentiation was established.

[Ultrastructure of pigeon peripheral blood cells].

The ultrastructural organization of erythrocytes, thrombocytes and white cells (pseudoeosinophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes) of the peripheral blood was studied in the pigeon Columba livia. The specific granules of eosinophils do not contain crystalloid structures characteristic of eosinophilic granules of certain respresentatives of fishes and mammals. Specific basophilic granules are of a large size and have homogeneous osmophilic matrix. The ultrastructure of agranulocytes (lymphocytes and monocytes) have no substantial distinctions from the similar cells of other representatives of vertebrates.

[A comparative electron microscopic study of the peripheral blood leukocytes of vertebrates].

The ultrastructure of leukocytes of the peripheral blood was studied in representatives of classes of fishes (Cyprinus carpio), amphibia (Rana redibunda, Bufo bufo), reptiles (Testudo horshfield), birds (Columba livia) and mammals (Rattus norvegicus). The granules are characterized by homogeneous or heterogeneous matrix. The granules of special leukocytes (turtle) and pseudoesinophils (pigeon) have larger dimensions than those in neutrophils of other animals. The matrix of the eosinophil granules of the carp and rat contain crystalloid structures while the granules of eosinophils of amphibia, turtles and pigeons are characterized by electron dense homogeneous matrix. The basophil granules are larger and in addition to homogeneous or fine granular structure (turtle, pigeon, rat) have lamellar structure (Cyprinus carpio, frog, toad). The ultrastructural organization of agranulocytes and plasma cells of the animals studied is also described.

[The effect of a low dose of ionizing radiation on the activity of cAMP-dependent phosphodiesterase and protein kinase of chicken thymus in ontogenesis].

Dynamics of changes in activities of cAMP-dependent enzymes, phosphodiesterase and protein kinase, were studied in the thymus of intact and irradiated, prior to incubation, (0.05 Gy) chicken embryos and chicks. The changes observed were wave-like. In determining phosphodiesterase activity of irradiated chicken thymocytes during ontogenesis the values were obtained that correlated with the cAMP level and adenylate cyclase activity. It was also shown that the increase in the rate of cAMP-dependent phosphorylation under the effect of low-level radiation corresponded to the cyclic nucleotide content of a cell at different development stages.

[Effect of preincubation irradiation on adenylate cyclase activity and cyclic nucleotide content of the thymus in chick ontogenesis].

Adenylate cyclase activity and cAMP and cGMP content of thymus have been studied in intact and irradiated (0.029 Gy, prior to incubation) embryos and chickens. The enzyme activity is stimulated during the postnatal development. The changes in the cyclic nucleotide content are undulatory and oppositely directed. It is suggested that the observed radiation-induced stimulation of adenylate cyclase and the reciprocal changes in the cyclic nucleotide content after hatching are related to the increased specific differentiation of thymus cells.

[Cyclic nucleotides in the ontogeny of the chick thymus].

The dynamics of cAMP and cGMP content of the thymus homogenate from developing chick embryos and chickens was studied during ante- and postnatal development. Changes in the content of cyclic nucleotides bear an oscillatory pattern. At the early stages of embryogenesis (9 to 11 days of incubation) the content of cyclic nucleotides was low and gradually increased by 13 days of incubation. As the development proceeded, the quantitative and qualitative rearrangement of the thymus cellular composition reflected in changes in the content of cyclic nucleotides. At the same time the curves of cyclic nucleotide content became antiphasic. These reciprocal cAMP to cGMP ratios might reflect the cyclic and synchronous reproduction and functional development of the main bulk of the thymus cellular elements. The maximum content of cAMP and the minimum content of cGMP were recorded on the 17th day of embryogenesis.

[The effect of small doses of ionizing radiation on the cAMP system in the thyroid gland of chick embryos].

Adenylate cyclase activity and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) content were studied in the thyroid gland of intact and irradiated (0.029 Gy given before incubation) embryos and chickens. The enzyme activity was stimulated and the nucleotide content increased on the 18th day of the embryo development. It is suggested that the observed stimulation of the cAMP system is associated with the increased secretion of the thyrotropic hormone which controls the functional activity of the thyroid gland.

[Effect of small doses of gamma radiation on the activity of marker enzymes in the plasma membranes of chick embryo liver].

A study was made of marker enzyme activity in plasma membranes of chick liver during embryogenesis in normal conditions and after exposure to ionizing radiation. It was shown that irradiation with small doses of eggs prior to incubation and of chick embryos during different periods of the prenatal ontogenesis caused essential changes in activity of membrane-bound enzymes of liver plasmolemma. Stimulation with small radiation doses was most effective with preincubation irradiation of eggs and most manifest at later stages of the prenatal ontogenesis. Thus, the marker enzymes were shown to play a significant role in the realization of the stimulatory effect of low-level radiation.
