[Study of proteolytic enzymes and their inhibitors in maxillary sinus exudates in patients with chronic suppurative maxillary sinusitis].

Specific proteolytic and antitryptic activities were measured in the sinus exudate of 27 patients with chronic suppurative maxillary sinusitis. Most patients showed a shift in the proteinase-inhibitor system with proteolytic activity being predominant. In the course of treatment antitryptic activity in the exudate increased. It was found that biochemical data were correlated with clinical manifestations. It is concluded that patients with the above pathology should be prescribed proteolytic enzymes on an individual basis and that natural proteinase inhibitors should be included into the combined therapy.

[Proteolysis and malignant growth (review)].

Modern data on participation of proteolytic enzymes from tissues and blood in malignant growth as well as their role in tumor invasiveness and metastatic spreading are reviewed. Alterations in content of the protein inhibitors of proteolysis occurred in tumors as well as diagnostic and prognostic significance of the inhibitors estimation in blood serum of oncological patients are considered. The experimental data on the antitumoral effect of native and synthetic inhibitors of proteolysis are discussed.

[Use of aerosils in activating plasma prekallikrein].

Activation of prekallikreine from human blood plasma was studied using silica (airsiles), which carried functional groups with acidic and alkaline properties on the surface. Prekallikrein was similarly activated by amino- and carboxyairsiles, possessing positive and negative electric charges, respectively, at neutral pH value in a medium. Lysozyme, ribonuclease and spermidine inhibited partially the prekallikreine activation; spermine inhibited it completely.

[Prospects of applying immobilized enzymes in medicine].

The paper deals with evidence on main trends for using immobilized enzymes in medicine. The lyposomes are shown to be means for delivering enzymes to a cell under certain hereditary diseases. The prospects are considered for using the bound enzymes for treating some pathologic processes (py0-inflammatory, thrombosis, malignant tumors, etc.). The data are presented on possibilities of applying the immobilized enzymes as specific reagents for determining substrates and metabolites in the disease diagnostics.
