The development of 18 children who had received 1--3 intra-uterine transfusions (IUT) because of severe Rh-erythroblatosis was followed over the first few years of life and finally checked when they were 2--6 years old. All of them were premature, 2 were born with hydrops, 1 with pre-hydrops. There were many other perinatal riskfactors (asphyxia, trouble with respiration, acidosis, severe anemia, hyperbilirubinemia). Examination (general and neurologic) was supplemented by EEG and psychologic testing )Kramer test, Vineland maturity scale, Denver development scales). No child showed signs of severe cerebral damage. 2 children had unequivocal pathologic signs (slight to medium spastic diplegia or hemipegia with corresponding focal findings in EEG). 3 further children showed minimal cerebral signs without disability. Development of intelligence was notably good throughout. Observations showed abnormal neurologi-signs more often during the first 2 years of life than later. Psychologic examinations, too, showed clear improvement with age. Results are satisfactory and confirm that IUT as a prenatal treatment with very severe Rh-Erythroblastosis is justified.

Report on a patient who had a Copper-T intrauterine device placed following abortion. The vertical arm of the device perforated the cervix and resulted in cervicitis and endometritis.
Three frequently used IUD's were studied in model experiments by ultrasound. The position of the IUD in the uterine cavity can be best outlined by longitudinal and transverse ultrasound section of the uterus in the anteflected or retroflected position. Only rarely can the position of the IUD be properly visualized if the uterus is in middle position and the applicator placed transversly. There is the possibility of misinterpretation of the string as an IUD. The data correlate well with ultrasound results of women wearing an IUD.

INTRODUCTION: The four-channel-tocography was developed to register the spatial and temporal pattern of uterine contractions and to evaluate their clinical relevance. In this study it should be assessed whether the four-channel-tocography can also register fetal movements. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 38 women with a gestational age between 28 and 43 weeks and singleton pregnancy. Four pressure transducers were attached in a square around the umbilicus. Parallel to the continuous registration of four-channel-tocography fetal movements were observed by conventional ultrasound. RESULTS: In a total of 23 hours and 11 minutes 403 fetal movements were registered by ultrasound and 405 by four-channel-tocography. 17% of the ultrasonically observed fetal movements were documented by the four-channel-tocography and 70% of the tocographically registered movements could be verified by ultrasound. CONCLUSION: Fetal movements can be registered by four-channel-tocography with good sensitivity and reliability. Essential for its clinical use is an automatic analysis, which is being developed.
