[Sex specific stress reactions in students during final examinations].

24 women and 43 men were investigated in rest and in connection with final examinations with a complex psychophysiological method. The reactions of women were characterized by a lower level of blood pressure, HDL-cholesterol, a higher level of heart rate, trijodthyronine, cortisol. No differences were found in subjective parameters and the results of examinations. Discrimination analysis supports partly these findings. The explanation of the gender specific reactions and their epidemiological importance is only possible on the basis of the complexity of the load strain connections.

[Studies of voice stress in teachers with functional voice disorders caused by teaching activity].

30 female teachers of ten-years technical schools-15 with functional voice-disturbance an 15 with healthy voice-have been examined while teaching in respect of their strain. Duration of speech, intensity of their teachers voice an background noise, the frequency of heart rate and the arterial blood pressure were measured on the teaching day. Between both research groups no statistically significant differences were shown. There were no correlations between the durations of speech, intensity and vegetative parameters.

[On the problem of stress].

After references to the different interpretations of stress in the framework of the stress-demand relations and the activity needs relations a psychophysiologically orientated stress concept is presented which contributed to the explanation of preservation of health and development of health, but also of origination and course of disease. Hereby qualitative peculiarities of the character and the appearance of the stress as well as of the origination of stress are emphasized.

Adaptation, Psychological↗

Physiological and psychological response to a three-month mental strain period in students.

Biochemical and immunological parameters, physical and mental performance, subjective complaints and behavioural characteristics were compared before and after 14 final examinations undertaken by 64 students during a three-month examination period. A decrease in cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, physical performance and an increase in LDL/HDL cholesterol quotient, lactate level, mental performance were accompanied by a lower frequency of mental complaints and higher frequency of physical complaints. From the multidimensional variance and discriminant analysis 17 of the 44 variables discriminated between the state prior to and after the examination period. The results are interpreted in terms of the psychophysiological adaptation to adequate mental stress.

[Parameters of acral vasomotor activity--sensory arousal variables in psychological stress].

By means of complex methods in 65 test persons from a large number of parameters the photopulse amplitude and the rheographic quotient at the finger apart from the heart rate and the blood pressure were established as very sensitive demand variables under psychic stress. The temporary and formal criteria of the volume pulse curves are less well suitable for this purpose. In the different reaction patterns the inclusion of sensitive biosignals of the acral vasomotricity is an information gain for the demand diagnostics under psychic stress.
