[Hygienic and physiological aspects of changing dressings].

The dressing has an impact on wound healing. If we want to prevent impaired wound healing, exchange of dressings must be done with hygienic precautions and damage of the wound must be avoided. It is better to use for re-dressing single-use sterile dressings from the so-called set-system than dressings from sterile drums. Selection of dressings should depend on the stage of healing of the wound. If a major wound is uncovered and left so for a long time, this interferes with healing.

Influence of anaesthetics on the fibrinolytic activity in minipigs.

The activator of the fibrinolytic system measured in minipigs may be profoundly influenced by ether and halothane. Hexobarbital anaesthesia is recommended for studies where effects of fibrinolysis have to be measured. "Fibrinolytic shutdown" during anaesthesia may be prevented by prophylactic administration of a plasminogen activator releasing agent (pentosan polysulphate).

Anesthetics

[Electrically induced thrombosis--its experimental and clinical use].

Electrically induced thrombosis is favoured for using in experimental medicine like experimental atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction and in testing pharmacological substances because of the sure effect of inducing thrombosis, because of it's good controlling, standardization, reproduction and localization. In clinical practice it is already used but the possibilities of clinical applications could be enlarged.

Animals

[Problems of standardization in electrically induced experimental thrombosis].

Electrically induced experimental thrombosis was investigated to the possibility of their standardization and reproduction and with respect with it for their qualification as model thrombosis. The lesions of the vessel wall by the electric field were recorded quantitatively by passive electrical behaviour of the arterial wall.

Animals

[Release of plasminogen activator by pentosan polysulfate].

In isolated perfused organs (pig ear, rabbit ear, rat lung) pentosan polysulphate caused an increase in the release of plasminogen activator. The activator was released in a dose-dependent manner, the release being repeatedly induced as demonstrated with the rabbit ear. An increase in activator activity was also found in experimental animals (mini-pig, rat, rabbit). In the isolated perfused organ and the whole animal, the activator released proved to be tissue-type plasminogen activator. For the release mechanism displacement of mural plasminogen activator by pentosan polysulphate seems to be of importance. The release of tissue-type activator plays a decisive role for the regulation of the temporarily insufficient fibrinolytic system, for the thrombolytic process and for the antithrombotic action of pentosan polysulphate.

Animals

[Experimental studies on the problem of improving the myocardial blood circulation in an intraoperatively resuscitated heart].

A pumping system for supporting an intraoperatively failured heart is presented. This system consists of a bell-shaped receptacle for the heart and a pump with a working volume of 49 ml and a working pressure of 220 Torr. The pumping power is transmitted to the heart by means of an external pneumatic pressure line. The efficacy of the pump in the high pressure system amounted to 20-30 per cent. An effective coronary perfusion in case of a cardiac failure is guaranteed by a venous underpressure pump of this pumping system. A favourable influence was also observed in case of the low pressure system.

Animals

[Hemodynamics and morphologic changes following stroma-free hemoglobin solutions in animal experiments].

Hemodynamics and pathomorphological signs after infusion of a stroma-free hemoglobin solution with defined stroma rest contend were registered in 24 minipigs. The small intravascular persistence and potential toxicity were the disadvantages of the solution. We noted a falling down of the central venous pressure and an ascent of the middle arterial pressure so the total peripheral resistance.

[Treating wounds and preparation for operations in experimental surgery].

Experiences about the preparation and the accomplishment of experimental animal operations are reported by reason of many own animal operations. Reproducible and representative animal experimental results require the appropriate preparation of the operating area, the pre-operative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of animals, an undisturbed healing process, and a lot of serious specialities.

[Experimental thromboses of the internal carotid artery in animal experiments as a prerequisite for model studies of acute cerebral ischemia].

Thrombotic occlusions of the cerebral arteries are in a high degree participating in the development of cerebral infarction. Their treatment is problematic because the use of thrombolytics may be detrimental to the cerebral tissue. In many cases, these thromboses cannot be reached surgically. Suitable animal models are necessary for achieving advances in this acute life-threatening disease. An animal-experimental model of a thrombosis of the arteria carotis interna is presented. For producing a coagulative thrombosis, autologous blood is used after previous electric activation in vitro which after re-injection behaves like a thrombogenic substance.

Animals

[Effect of the action of anodal direct current on venous blood characteristics in vitro].

Intravasal application of anodic direct current usually results in the development of a separate thrombosis. Thrombotic occlusion made successively by means of direct current will lead to an acceleration of the second thrombosis. Significant alterations of the examined parameters in the sense of an increased readiness to coagulation and acidosis could be proved after the impact of anodic direct current on the blood in vitro. The development of coagulation thrombosis and obstruction of microcirculation in the supply area are could be observed when the blood which in vitro had been exposed to the effect of the anodic direct current was transfused into the arterial blood circulation.

Animals

[Perfusion of the ischemic myocardium in the acute phase of a myocardial ischemia using a stroma-free hemoglobin solution].

Concerning the effect of the perfusion of ischemic areas of the myocardium by a stroma-free hemoglobin solution was reported after the starvation of the interventricular branch of the left coronary artery (RIVA) in minipigs. The effect of the perfusion is dependent on the kind of the vascular course. The perfusion of the distal part of the starvated coronary artery shows the better reaction in face of the artemalization of the concomitant cardiac vein with regard to the resaturation of the myocardium with oxygen and several hemodynamic control parameters. Histologic examinations of the ischemic myocardium after the arterialization of the cardiac veins showed however that the symplasm preserved its vitality and showed only reversible changes. The applied stroma-free hemoglobin solution needs a further development. However, the use is possible on principle according to the bibliography. Whether a new clinical therapy could be developed by a transitory arterialization of the cardiac veins in acute myocardial ischemia, should be discussed.

[Resorption of pharmacologic substances and oxygen by the myocardium following application into the pericardial cavity].

The epicardium as a biological substrate is able to absorb. We were able to observe the absorption of pharmacological substances and the physically dissolved oxygen as well as the gaseous oxygen after the application into the pericardial cavity by experiments in narcotised mini-pigs. The oxygen absorption by the epicardium led to the retrogression of an artificially caused myocardial ischemia.
