[Amniocentesis in Rh immunisation (author's transl)].

Amniocentesis was performed 56 times in 42 pregnant women with Rh immunisation. In 6 cases of Rh immunisation there was a high delta bilirubin extinction in the B zone of the Liley diagram; in these cases immunosuppressive therapy with corticosteroids was applied. In all these cases also exsanguinotransfusion in children proved necessary. In 16 pregnant women, in whom the delta bilirubin extinction was in the A zone of the Liley diagram, high bilirubin values required exsanguinotransfusion in children.

[Inversion of the uterus during cord traction].

Two cases of the uterine inversion during cord traction is described. Both women were primiparae, aged 26 and 19, respectively. Once there was a shorter umbilical cord and once the adherent placenta. In both cases the manual reposition of the uterus proved successful, but the patients were threatened by the shock, one of them even developed the heart arrest. The authors draw attention to the fact that the cord traction method in the third stage of labour could be exceptionally dangerous, in spite of its other advantages.

[Uterine perforation in a legal abortion].

In the General Hospital Osijek, from 1974 to 1977, out of 15,716 legal abortions and 2323 abortions completed in the hospital, there were 16 perforations (0.08%) of most serious kind, two of them including injured intestines. The most serious complications followed abortions made in pregnancies exceeding 10 weeks.

[Bacteriological analysis of the cervical canal in uterine cervix insufficiency].

A bacteriological analysis was made of pyogenic agents from the cervical canal of 260 pregnant women with cervical incompetency, in whom the cerclage of the cervix was performed. Pyogenic agents were found in 139 (53.5%) pregnancies. The most frequently isolated pathogenic agent was Enterococcus--in 19.2% of all pregnant women and in 36.0% in those with a pathologic swab. E. coli was isolated in 16.5% of all pregnant women and in 30.9% of those with the pathologic swab. A significantly higher number of pathologic swabs were found in women with colpitis and the cleanliness 3 degree of the vaginal discharge and without colpitis (6.4%). In pregnant women with a pathologic swab, in spite of the cervical cerclage, spontaneous abortions and premature deliveries were significantly more frequent (8.2% and 16.4% respectively) than in pregnant women with a sterile swab (1.8% and 6.1% respectively).

[A neurogenic cyst of the ovary].

A case of a bilateral adult cystic teratoma of the ovary in a 45-year-old woman is reported. The cyst of the right ovary was a typical "ovarian dermoid". The cyst of the left ovary consisted of adult neurogenic tissue, with islands of the ependyma on the surface. The tissues of the endodermal and mesodermal origin were also present in small quantities. It is evident from the literature that "neurogenic cysts" are much larger than "dermoid cysts", and they are reported only in preburtal girls. In the case presented the "neurogenic cyst" was not substantially larger than the "dermoid cyst" in the contralateral ovary. The the authors' knowledge, this is the first case of a "neurogenic cyst" of the ovary in the reproductive life reported so far.

[Cervical pregnancy treated by conization].

Cervical pregnancy in a 23-year-old patients is presented. The local finding corresponded to criteria for the diagnosis of cervical pregnancy. The diagnosis was confirmed by an immunological test (Gonavislide) and ultrasound. Conization was applied, and in the conization material the pathologist found chorial villi with a great many trophoblasts in direct contact with the muscular cervical layer.

[Primary insular carcinoid tumor in a benign cystic teratoma of the ovary (author's transl)].

A case of primary, insular, argentaffin carcinoid tumor (argentaffinoma) of the left ovary, arising in a bening cystic teratoma in a 60-year-old woman is reported. The tumor was not accompanied by any signs of the carcinoid syndrome despite a large volume, prominent acinar differentiation, and strong argentaffinity. Considering the morphologic carcinoid classification by Soga and Tazawa, the case had a mixed A + C pattern. A few Paneth-like cells and a few small calcifications in the stroma were present. Microscopic, ultrastructural, and histochemical findings were identical with those of carcinoids arising in midgut derivatives. There were small mucinous areas about 1.5 cm in diameter. Microscopic examination revealed pools of mucin with more of less disintegrated acini. This morphologic feature was not as yet reported in the insular carcinoid tumor. The patient feels well one and half year after hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, without any signs of metastatic disease.
