[Discourse and practice of care to newborns at risk: reflecting about humanized care].

This study identifies nurses' opinions on humanized care for newborn at risk and their families, using Paterson and Zderad's theory (1976) as a theoretical-methodological reference framework. It was carried out at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a maternity in Fortaleza-CE, between April and July 2003. Data were collected through interviews with 6 nurses. They approached the following themes: humanization, sensitiveness, conscience and care. There is a need to unite discourse with practice in humanized care for newborns at risk.

[Analysis of humanistic theory and interpersonal relations of nurses in newborn care].

Theories are propositions created to evaluate nursing care, allowing nurses to consider and incorporate them in their professional practice. This Masters study was aimed at thinking critically about the practical usefulness of the concepts of Humanistic Nursing Theory. This descriptive-reflexive study was carried out in 2004 and used Meleis' model for the analysis of theories. The "critique of theory" segment was taken from this model to be used as an analytical tool, with emphasis on the "usefulness" parameter. The critical analysis revealed the notorious "usefulness" of interpersonal relations and dialogue, which can be used in daily practice at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, valuing the human affective relations, which are essential for nursing care. Nursing practice should be guided by theoretical, philosophical, and methodological reference frameworks, responsible for making professionals reflect critically on themselves and their practice.

[Ecologic view: a web in the nursing].

From the revolutionary changes in reality concept, caused by physics and modern thoughts, new consistent vision of the world emerge and it is influenced from the classic physics to quantum physics transition. The aim of this study is to show Capra's thoughts influenced the ecologic nursing care dissemination. The new paradigm can be called an ecologic view in a wider and deeper perspective. Health in the holistic view of men with its relationship encompass an ecological thought in which requires nurses'competence area. Also it needs a critical thinking towards knowing, being and doing in order to compromise changes to raise emotions, enchantment and to take care of nature for the quality and existence of humanity.

[The family living with Down syndrome patients in the perspective of Humanistic Theory].

The objective of this study was to socialize the process of coexistence of the family of the bearers of syndrome of Down based in the Humanistic Theory of Paterson and Zderad. The study was realized with a research of descriptive exploratory character, with a qualitative approach and participant observation. It was accomplished in APAE/ Sobral-CE, with the use of group dynamics and a guided interview for collection of data. The results showed us that the parents don't have difference between a normal son and a special one; the treatment is the same, with a lot of love, affection, understanding and respect, however a lot of times they find some difficulties in taking care, as the communication and the feeding. We also observed that the family is very important, necessary, so that the coexistence with the bearer becomes more and more natural in spite of a society that, a lot of times, still has prejudice.
