Adult male involvement in reproductive health: an ethnographic study in a community of São Paulo City, Brazil.

The purpose of this research was to explore the involvement in reproductive health of adult men in a low-income community in São Paulo City, Brazil. The ethnonursing research method was used and data were collected through interviews with seven key and eight general informants. Lack of common sex education was found and informants' knowledge depended on their own families' involvement and individual life experience with machismo. Informants' behaviors and attitudes toward women were constructed by their own male-centered values. Leininger's culture care modes were used to explain culturally meaningful nursing care actions and decisions.

[Experience with the educational process for the promotion of adolescents' health].

This article is a experience report about a group developed with adolescents, living in a low income community in São Paulo City. The aim of the task was the adolescent's health promotion, with sociocultural contextualization for this group. Took part in 34 adolescents of both sex, from 12 to 18 years old. It was realized nine health classes when the adolescents reported their doubts related to health. The methodology of the work was based on participative approach during the educational process. The adolescent's doubts about health were classified according to the similarities, and answered according to the scientific literature. These answers were formulated in popular language. The educational resource's contents were validated with the adolescents and they have suggested the necessary modifications. The experience permitted to know the characteristics of this particular group and to plan a kind of orientations meaningful to the adolescents.

[Ethnographic studies in nursing].

This article makes an deals with ethnographic research in nursing. It discusses the goal and the relevance of this kind of research the professional context. It includes also issues related to rigor and ethics. It points out basic aspects of participant-observation and ethnographic interview methods, and makes an overview of data collection, analysis and utilization of this data for culture description.

[The influence of religious belief on patient motivation for self-care].

This is a case study on the influence of religious beliefs interfering in the clients health actions in an outpatient unit. The initial approach of the client was made by a nursing consultations using self-care framework. The continuity of intervention was performed by home visit and follow-up consultation. The development of the interaction revealed that the holy occupies important place in the clients' decision in relation to her health.

[A descriptive study of the defining characteristics of nursing diagnosis: sexual dysfunction].

The defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis "Sexual Dysfunction" were gathered from NAAM assessment records. From this population 96 records with the defining characteristics of Sexual Dysfunction were selected. The 9 defining characteristics proposed by The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association were used as a framework for the data collection tool. The 3 most frequently defining characteristics were absence of sexual desire (71.9%), vaginal discharge (64.5%), and pain (44.8%). The authors concluded that 6 defining characteristics have not appeared; absence of sexual desire and vaginal discharge can be considered as minor characteristics. The authors recommend the implementation of other studies to clarify the subjective defining characteristics.

[Leininger's transcultural theory].

The authors make a short review of the development of Transcultural Nursing, present several major concepts and definitions as well as some major assumptions of this theory. Some considerations are made on the "Sunrise" Theoretical Conceptual Model of Transcultural Care Diversity and Universality, developed and used by Leininger since 1965 to the present.
