[Use of an immunologic test for differential diagnosis of uterine chorionepithelioma and hydatid mole].

Polysaccharide complexes obtained by Westphal's method (modified by L. A. Zilbert et al) from the tissue of a primary tumour node and remote metastases (the lungs) of chorionoepithelioma of the uterus were used for differential diagnosis of chorionepithelioma of the uterus and hydatid mole. Investigations carried out showed that the reaction to the intradermal injection of polysaccharide complexes obtained from the remote metastases (the lungs) of chorionepithelioma of the uterus was highly specific and sensitive: positive reaction occurred only in the patients with chorionepithelioma of the uterus, and it was negative in the patients with hydatid mole. With a marked diminution (in the course of chemotherapy) of metastases in the lungs, when the immunological reaction to chorionic gonadotropin fell to 300--100 IU per litre of the urine, reaction to the intradermal injection of polysaccharide complexes from the metastases of chorionepithelioma of the uterus still remained positive.

[Human evoked potentials during perception of simple and complex visual stimuli].

Visual evoked potentials were recorded in children and juveniles with normal vision upon presentation of "blank" and checkboard patterns with different size of checkboard cells (10,20,40,60 and 120 angular minutes). A high degree of dependence was established both of early and later components on physical stimulus parameters: pattern structures (diffuse photic stimulus, checkboard pattern), the number of contrast borders (different sizes of checkboard cells). Maximal EP was recorded upon presentation of checkboard patterns with cells of 20 to 60 angular minutes. This is discussed as related to the size of receptive fields in man. Attraction and distraction of attention, while causing some amplitude changes mainly in later components (V and VII) amplitude did not considerably influence the EP configuration.

[Synthesis of a bovine adrenodoxin precursor in vitro and its import into yeast mitochondria].

The bovine adrenal cortex adrenodoxin gene was inserted into pTZ19 under T7 promoter control. The adrenodoxin mRNA was synthesized with T7 RNA polymerase and then translated in the reticulocyte cell-free translation system. The protein product was identified as the adrenodoxin precursor with molecular weight 22000. The import of the precursor into isolated yeast mitochondria was carried out. The protein was found to be inserted into the trypsin-insensitive compartment of mitochondria via an energy dependent way. This resulted in the processing of the precursor to the 12000-mature form. Thus, the precursor of mammalian adrenodoxin can be normally imported into yeast mitochondria.

[Visual evoked potentials in chessboard pattern reversion in children with optic neuritis].

Visual evoked potentials (VEP) to chess pattern reversion were studied in 17 children with optic neurites during the acute stage and in the course of convalescence 1-2 months and 1-3 years after the disease onset. Coarse VEP changes were detected in the patients during the acute stage of optic neuritis. A positive time course of VEP was followed up in late periods after the acute attack of the disease. Despite normalization of vision acuity, no complete restoration of VEP to small-cell chess patterns was seen. The findings evidence that studies of VEP to chess pattern reversion should be carried out to detect subclinical involvement of the optic nerve and to timely diagnose optic neuritis in children.
