The authors report the results of an open study carried out on 23 patients with head-neck neoplasia in order to test whether rational nutritional treatment can improve weight and clinical state. The data obtained would indicate that patients with nutritional intake higher than 26 kcal/kg of body weight underwent increase in body weight. The authors conclude that neoplastic patients, and in particular subjects affected by head-neck or cervico-facial neoplasia, need suitable nutritional intake.
Three patients who had hot nodules on I-123 scan were found to have thyroid cancers in the nodule. Two of the cancers were follicular, one was a follicular variant of papillary cancer.
A 53-yr-old man with hypercalcemia was referred after an unsuccessful operative attempt to find a parathyroid adenoma. Metabolic evaluation showed relatively suppressed levels of parathyroid hormone with an elevation of serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Thallium-technetium dual isotope imaging revealed localized mediastinal thallium uptake. A vascular mediastinal lesion was then demonstrated by arteriography, with subsequent surgical removal of a mass that proved to be lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's disease. This case is noteworthy for the finding of isolated lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's disease in the chest, the association of elevated serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D with hypercalcemia that resolved postoperatively, and the uptake of thallium by the tumor.

Derivatives of propylene-amine-oxime (PnAO) have been synthesized which form a neutral lipid-soluble complex with 96mTc and can be supplied as freeze-dried kits. The complexes cross the intact blood-brain barrier. This report shows the brain uptake, early kinetics and biodistribution in normal adult baboons of 5 99mTc-PnAO derivatives and 2 isomers of one of the tested derivatives (HM-PAO). The brain uptake of the favoured dl-isomer of HM-PAO reaches its maximum of 4.3% (whole brain/whole body) 1 min p.i. and a clearance of less than 8% was observed 23 min p.i.

A case of giant phaeochromocytoma occurring in a 47-year-old man with no signs or symptoms of catecholamine secretion is reported. Abdominal ultrasound scanning, chest X-ray, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were preoperatively performed. The patient was operated through a thoracoabdominal incision and section of the left hemidiaphragm. The giant retroperitoneal mass was en-bloc resected together with the left adrenal gland. Macroscopic sectioning showed a smoothly rounded 29 x 21 x 12 cm tumour attached to a normal left adrenal gland, weighing 4050 gr. The huge size of the neoplasm, the several areas of necrosis, the size and monomorphic appearance of the cells, and the large number of mitotic figures afforded a diagnosis of malignant phaeochromocytoma.

Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma (MFH) rarely affects the abdomen and only a few cases arising in the mesentery have to date been discovered. In this paper, two cases of MFH of the mesentery are described and a review of the literature is reported.
Forty-three cases of pancreatic pseudocysts (PPC) are reviewed. Various emergency and elective surgical therapeutical options have been employed: while external drainage has confirmed to represent the best procedure in emergency occurrences, cystojejunostomy has proved to be the treatment that better provides both optimal functional results and minimal mortality/morbidity in elective situations. Our study also confirms that the thickness of the pseudocystic wall is the only feature apt to determine whether or not a PPC is susceptible of internal surgical derivation, and that abdominal ultrasound scanning is the most sensitive and reliable diagnostic method to ascertain this prerequisite, thus providing a well-timed strategy for elective derivative operations.
