Sciatic artery aneurysm is a rare condition. We treated 4 patients. The clinical presentation in all 4 was as a result of aneurysm complications. The diagnosis was made on angiography in all of them. Surgical treatment was successful in 3 of the 4 patients.
The Breast Clinic at Ga-Rankuwa Hospital/MEDUNSA serves a large population of black South Africans. The patients present at a young age and commonly with very advanced disease. Problems in follow-up are more complex in this group because of difficulties with finance, transport and communication. The very large number of cases lost to follow-up and regular supervision after completion of treatment militates against collecting data for accurate reporting of results. An account is given of our experience in dealing with 532 cases of breast carcinoma seen over a period of 6 years.
This is an account of the rinderpest outbreak in southern Africa in the closing decade of the 19th century, with special reference to the Transvaal and northern Cape which brought socio-economic disaster in its wake in President Kruger's Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek. Robert Koch was invited to South Africa by the Cape Government to investigate the cattle plague and to find a cure. His stay in Kimberley was sponsored by the De Beer's Company and the Kimberley Diamond Fields Advertiser gave regular, sometimes dramatic, reports of the progress of the work. Although doubt seems to have existed in some quarters as to the complete success of Robert Koch's vaccine, the consensus appears to be that it was efficacious.

Blood transfusion reactions due to mismatching are fortunately very rare. A case of a patient being given incompatible blood to correct postoperative anaemia is reported and the management discussed.

The increasing incidence of duodenal ulcer among Blacks, and the incidence at Ga-Rankuwa Hospital, Pretoria, are discussed. The role of urbanization and urban stress is considered, and the concept of 'marginal man' in relation to urban stress is outlined. A plea is made for the utilization of this concept in the study of the problem.
A case of severe acute upper gastro-intestinal tract haemorrhage arising from a duodenal leiomyoma is described. The literature on small-bowel leiomyomas is reviewed, and the importance of gastroscopy in acute upper gastro-intestinal bleeding is stressed.
