Decubitus ulcers: a comparative study.

Seventeen patients with thirty-four decubitus ulcers were treated with dextranomer, collagenase, or sugar and egg white. All seven patients in the dextranomer group and two of five patients in the collagenase group improved at the end of the study, but none of the five patients on sugar and egg white treatment improved. Although collagenase can be helpful in the treatment of decubitus ulcers, dextranomer is significantly better.

Pulsating fixed drug eruption due to tetracycline.

A 29-year-old woman developed a pulsating, fixed drug eruption following a year's course of both oral and parenteral administration of tetracycline for pharyngitis. Patch testing of tetracycline powder under occlusion at the site confirmed the diagnosis.

Nonsuture surgery for basal cell carcinoma: an alternative method.

Eighty-seven basal cell carcinomas were treated by surgical excision. Sites of removal were allowed to heal by secondary intention. Advantages of this method include histologic monitoring of the adequacy of incision, a less formidable surgical procedure, and a cosmetically acceptable scar.

Crohn's disease--non-caseating granulomas on the legs.

A 27-year-old black man with Crohn's disease and nodules on the legs is described. Such nodules constitute one of three types of cutaneous manifestations which have a histological picture of a non-caseating granuloma. The two other varieties of skin lesions described are: that resulting from a direct spread from the gastrointestinal tract, and that resulting from spread over contiguous skin.
