Ellipsoidal universe can solve the cosmic microwave background quadrupole problem.

The recent 3 yr Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe data have confirmed the anomaly concerning the low quadrupole amplitude compared to the best-fit Lambda-cold dark matter prediction. We show that by allowing the large-scale spatial geometry of our universe to be plane symmetric with eccentricity at decoupling or order 10(-2), the quadrupole amplitude can be drastically reduced without affecting higher multipoles of the angular power spectrum of the temperature anisotropy.

Production of axions by cosmic magnetic helicity.

We investigate the effects of an external magnetic helicity production on the evolution of the cosmic axion field. It is shown that a helicity larger than (few x 10(-15) G)2 Mpc, if produced at temperatures above a few GeV, is in contradiction with the existence of the axion, since it would produce too much of an axion relic abundance.

The aging workforce: implications for organizations.

Older workers may perform as well as or better than younger workers. Their accumulated knowledge, skills, and experiences, as well as their low absenteeism, turnover, and accident rates, makes them valuable employees. This chapter examines both the positive and negative effects of an aging workforce. A variety of issues regarding demographic trends, ageism, stereotyping of the older worker, appropriate health promotion strategies, elder care, and health care costs are addressed.
