[Structure and antipyretic-hypothermizing effect of various pyrazol/1,5-a/pyrimidines].

Structures of condensation products between 3-phenyl-5-aminopyrazole and ethyl ethoxymethylenacetoacetate and ethyl acetonoxalate are demonstrated, namely ethyl 2-phenyl-7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-6-carboxylate and ethyl 2-phenyl-7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5-carboxylate. Studies on antipyretic and hypothermizing activity of the acid derived from the latter and of other compounds are reported.

[Condensation of 3-phenyl-5-aminopyrazolo with acylpyruvic and ethoxymethylenacetic esters].

The synthesis of ethyl 2-phenyl-7-alkyl (or 7-phenyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-5-carboxylate and ethyl 2-phenyl-7-alkyl (or 7-phenyl)pyrazolo[1.5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate are reported. Decarboxylation of the acids, obtained by hydrolysis of the above esters, yields the same compounds. N.M.R. data on the reduction products of the ethyl 6-carboxylate confirm all the assigned structures.

Structure of pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine methylderivatives.

In the course of researches on pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine compounds, methylation reactions with (CH3)2SO4 and CH2N2 are studied. Methylderivatives structure is assigned by means of a spectroscopic investigation. A relationship between the kind of reagent and the methyl group position is stressed.

[Pyrazolo[3,4d][1,3]thiazine systems].

The synthesis of 1,2,4,6-tetrahydro-2-methyl-3-hydroxypyrazolo [3,4-d] [1,3]thiazine-4,6-dithione is described. By spectroscopic methods the anphionic structure of this and other related compounds is demonstrated. In addition, the action of alkylating reagents upon pyrazolo-[3,4-d] [1,3]thiazine-4,6-dithionic compounds is examined and described. The biological activity of the new synthesized compounds is reported.

Abnormalities of short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials in parkinsonian patients.

Twenty-two patients (16 affected by parkinsonian syndromes, 6 by other neurological diseases) and 12 age-matched controls were examined. Short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded from 30 scalp electrodes in the 45-52 msec following separate left and right median nerve stimulation at the wrist. Bit-colour maps were generated on a 4096 pixel matrix via quadratic interpolation. Peak latencies and amplitudes of the parietal, central and frontal components were evaluated. Moreover, the amplitude ratios between parietal and frontal components on the same hemiscalp and between peaks on homologous right and left scalp districts were taken into account. The unique significant difference between parkinsonians and controls was represented by a depressed frontal N30 wave. This peak was absent in 3 and reduced in 7 out of 16 parkinsonians, with an overall abnormality rate of 47% of the examined arms. Average maps pooling data of parkinsonians and controls confirmed the presence of reduced evoked activity for the whole duration of wave N30 on those mid- and parasagittal frontal districts where this peak is maximally represented in normals. A similar abnormality was found in 1 of the 6 non-parkinsonian neurological patients suffering from a meningioma of the falx compressing the left supplementary motor area. Possible pathophysiology of such wave N30 abnormalities in parkinsonians is discussed.

[Thrombosis of the superior sagittal sinus and ulcerative colitis. A case report].

We describe a rare case of superior sagittal sinus thrombosis in a young man (26 years) with undiagnosed ulcerative colitis. The patient was hospitalized with headache and paresis of the right arm and leg. he had had rectal bleeding and diarrhea for the previous 4 weeks. Despite the fact that heparin therapy is still considered controversial, we successfully treated our patient with low doses of sub-cutaneous heparin. He did not suffer any side-effect.

[The liquid scintillation counting of the 14C natural level in ethanol: a comparison of different standardisation methods (author's transl)].

The influence on liquid scintillation counting efficiency of internal standards toluene-14C, hexadecane-14C and ethanol-14C has been studied for low level-14C measuring of ethanol samples. Many biological and synthetic samples of ethanol have been counted: the best results are obtained with external standardisation on quenching calibration curve made with ethanol-14C. External standardisation on quenching calibration curve made with toluene-14C is preferable to internal standardisation with ethanol-14C. Hesadecane-14C as internal standard gives activities rather higher than true values.
