[Some aspects of pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and diagnosis of occupational chronic occupational bronchitis].

The article represents data characterizing course of chronic bronchitis in 78 machinery workers subjected to toxic irritative and sensibilizing aerosols. Findings are early bronchial obstruction and pulmonary emphysema, frequent disorders of microcirculation and lesser circle perfusion, propensity to interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and lung hypertension. The results could serve as a base for pathogenetic therapy and necessitate to include COLD into Occupational Diseases Register.

[Occupational bronchial asthma].

Examination of 400 patients with occupational bronchial asthma helped to identify various clinical and pathogenetic variants of the disease in accordance with independent and combined occupational allergens and irritants. The authors evaluated diagnostic value of endonasal tests with occupational allergen, rhinocytologic tests and some specific allergologic blood tests in vitro.

Allergens↗

[The diagnostic value of endonasal provocation with chemical antigens in occupational respiratory allergoses].

Allergologic study covered 500 workers who underwent exposure to hexavalent chromium and 150 workers exposed to formaldehyde. The study proved high specificity and diagnostic value of endonasal provocation with hapten. Endonasal provocation with chemical antigen helps to disclose an etiologic role of the hapten in upper and lower respiratory tract allergy. Endonasal provocation with chemical allergen reveals latent sensibilization of respiratory tract mucosa in apparently healthy workers with no allergic signs. The data obtained could be valuable for diagnosis of occupational allergies, for examination of capacity to work, for occupational examinations, for rational medical and occupational rehabilitation.

[Early diagnosis and effective prevention of occupational allergies caused by hexavalent chromium].

Clinical and allergologic evaluation covered a large group of workers engaged into alumina production and exposed to chromate. Those workers were also subjected to long-standing follow-up. The studies helped to find correlation of chromium concentration in air with occurrence of the occupational allergies and latent sensibilization of respiratory tract to chromium. Immune modulator Levamisol was proved to act as a desensibilizer in prophylaxis of the occupational allergies in individuals with the latent sensibilization.

[Occupational lung pathology in gas cutters].

The authors provide the results of clinical, x-ray, functional and specific allergological examinations made in 396 cutters. Characterize the main forms of occupational respiratory pathology--pneumoconiosis and chronic bronchitis. Haptene metals (chromium, nickel, manganese) contained by the industrial aerosol were established to produce a sensitizing action on the body. The data obtained may be of importance for the diagnosis and prevention of occupational diseases in cutters, expert medical evaluation of the working capacity and follow-up of the patients.

[The clinical and diagnostic aspects of sensitization to an industrial allergen of chemical nature (exemplified by hexavalent chromium)].

Examination of 531 workers engaged in alumina production and exposed to hexavalent chromium has revealed the characteristic features of occupational allergic pathology, established the relationship between the sensitization effect and the concentration of haptene as well as the state of aggregation of the industrial aerosol. Based on many years' observation over the workers the data have been obtained, characterizing the dynamics of the pathological process. The investigations carried out may turn out of importance for the diagnosis of occupational allergoses, expert medical evaluation of the working capacity and follow-up of the patients, and adequate solving of the problems of medical and labour rehabilitation.

[The sensitizing action of an industrial aerosol on the body of gas cutters].

Results of a study of 312 gas cutters revealed in a half of them sensibilization of metals-haptens (chromium, nickel, manganese) that are ingredients of industrial aerosols. Most frequently there occurred sensibilization of nasal mucosa (latent or as allergic rhinosinusopathy) in association with positive specific reactions of the blood in vitro. Bronchial asthma and chronic asthmatic bronchitis were rarely observed.
