In the beginning of this case, the "my way or the highway" approach would have resulted in no treatment of this patient. But by meeting her primary concern of aesthetics and making sure she has a pain-free experience, the patient went on to undergo full periodontal care with excellent results.
A case of rampant decay influenced by the use of a high-sugar, high-caffeine, citrus drink was presented. A pulsed Nd:YAG was used to achieve a clear operative area by removal of redundant tissue. An argon curing laser was used to effectively cure a sandwich technique of glass ionomer and microfill-resin restoration. While lasers increased the effectiveness and efficiency of routine dental care, diet control of sugar intake is crucial for long-term success.
