The results of a clinical study of a polypeptide preparation of the thymus-thymalin in 50 patients with cervical carcinoma are discussed. Thymalin was found to exert a beneficial effect in various immuno-suppressive states involved in carcinoma of uterine cervix. Since the preparation has a distinct stimulating effect, its administration should be included into different schemes of complex therapy of cervical carcinoma.
The structure of chronic pain and its treatment in 41 cases of advanced malignant tumor of genitals are discussed. Pain syndrome was found to have a certain pattern (site, acuteness, depth, irradiation) which may be used as an additional diagnostic parameter. Different types of analgetic blockade (neurolysis) e. g. subarachnoidal, peridural and sacral, as well as blockade of pudendal nerve were applied in the treatment. Subarachnoidal blockade by alcohol proved to be the most effective (78%) and lasting (22 days). Analgesia by sacral blockade is less effective but safer.
The data are described, which were obtained in diagnosing the background processes, precancer conditions and preclinical cancer of the uterine cervix based on the examination of 64,000 pregnant women. The following technics have been employed: cytological, colposcopic methods and contact luminescent colpomicroscopy. The final diagnosis was based on the histological findings of the biopsy specimen or the removed cervical conus. The results obtained have shown the examination of curettings from the cervical surface in the uterine ostium region and from the cervical canal to be mandatory in all pregnant women. The complex examination is indicated in case of the cervical pathology, detected by a vaginal speculum or revealed cytologically.

The authors report the results of experimental and clinical estimation of the effect of polypeptide extract of the epiphysis (epithalamin) on cervical cancer. Injection of epithalamin is shown to improve the cell immunity indices and renders an antitumor action. The experiments on mice with the transplantable squamous cell cancer of the cervix (strain SCC) have indicated a marked antitumor effect of epithalamin and its potentiating effect on cyclophosphan action.
The authors report the results of studying the complications of iliac lymphadenectomy--lymphocysts developed after radical operations in 16 of 415 operated patients with cancer of the uterus. The method of indirect radioisotope lymphography may be considered to be the most simple method of detecting lymphatic cysts. Small size lymphocysts require no special surgical intervention. Extensive incapsulated lymph accumulation renders mandatory the incision and drainage of the lymphocyst in the iliac region at the site of the involvement. The most rational prophylactic measures against lymphocysts seem to be the provision for active lymph outflow by vacuum drainage.
