The echo- and dopplerography of newborn infants up to 10-day age revealed that their heart work capacity was about 6 Wt, relative capacity--25 Wt/100 g of ventricular mass. These data correspond to those of adult humans. The Frank-Starling mechanism was corroborated.

The blood plasma increases the O2 affinity and acid-base capacity of haemoglobin. The coefficient lg p50/pH is 2-5 times higher than Bohr coefficient. The effect remains unchanged after boiling of plasma, increases after dilution of haemoglobin and decreases after boiling of plasma with ethanol. The cerebrospinal fluid also increases the O2-affinity of haemoglobin. Probable mechanisms of the phenomenon are discussed.
The incubation of hemoglobin solutions without air contacts at room temperature with addition of antibiotics is accompanied by decrease of oxy form and accumulation of desoxy form. The content of methemoglobin changes at a less degree. The increase of the temperature accelerates the process, the acidification of solutions decelerates it.

The affinity of hemoglobin to oxygen increases in some rats and decreases in others after the blood warming at 45 degrees C during 5 min. After 60 min of blood warming the affinity decreases in all animals. Such reaction was not observed in human blood. These changes of hemoglobin are regarded as indirect nonspecific reaction.
The change of hemoglobin and carbonic anhydrase properties under the action of hexenal and ethyl alcohol has been studied in rabbits and ewes. It has been shown that hexenal causes the decrease of blood ph and p50 of hemoglobin, ethanol causes the increase of blood ph and p50. That contradicts the requirements of the alkaline Bohr effect. Hexenal decreases the activity of carbonic anhydrase.
Under the influence of isobaric hyperoxia during 1-3 hrs the hemoglobin of laboratory mice acquires higher affinity to oxygen and buffer capacity as compared to control.
The effect of iso- and hypertonic concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) on hemoglobin functional properties and acid-base balance in hemolysate, was studied. Washing of erythrocytes with 0.85% solution of NaCl decreased the pH and hemoglobin affinity to oxygen to such an extent that the Bohr effect increased as the result of effect of chloride ions on hemoglobin properties added to the effects of pH.

Blood smears of 11 and 13-day-old embryos (20) and newborns (10) of golden hamsters were analysed. The smears were stained with brilliant cresyl blue in a moist chamber for 5--7 min. About 2--6 thousand cells were counted in 200 visual fields. By means of an ocular micrometer MOB-1 the diameters of 300 cells were measured and the curves on cell distribution were plotted according to the diameters. It was found that the blood of 11-day-old golden hamster embryos contained about 8% of binuclear and sixnuclear megaloblasts, and that of 13-day-old embryos--about 2.5% of binuclear and sixnuclear erythroblasts and megablasts of the second generation. In the bloood of newborn hamster polynuclear cells are absent.
