[Catecholamine metabolism in various compensatory manifestations of epilepsy patients].

The authors studied the catecholamine metabolism with an additional use of the function loadings by insulin and adrenalin in 77 epileptic patients who were ill for a long time and had marked disturbances in mental activity. The study was conducted in dynamics. The authors revealed a considerable activation of catecholamine metabolism in patients with acute psychotic states during dysphoria and in periods close to attacks against the background of typical, for the studied group, depression of the sympathoadrenalin system. The differences in the nature of reaction to the functional loadings, changing in various stages of the disease development and reflecting, to some extent, the compensatory possibilities of organism were registered.

[Role of biogenic amines in the pathogenesis of intellectual disorders in children with minimal psychoorganic syndromes].

Memory, attention and emotional reactivity in comparison to indices of catecholamine and serotonin metabolism were studied in 25 children from 7 to 10 years with the minimal psychoorganic syndrome during aminalon treatment. According to the excretion indices the activity equilibrium of catecholamines and serotonin were changed and were accompanied by disturbances of memory, attention and emotional reactivity. An improvement of these indices during treatment corresponded to a normalization of the activity in these systems. Questions concerning the signficance of disturbed metabolism of biogenic amines in the pathogenesis of the psychoorganic syndrome are discussed.

[The role of catecholamines, acetylcholine and cholinesterase activity in the development of the cataleptic action of triftazin following repeated administration].

Catalepsy occurring in rats in a singular and repeated introduction of triftasine has a manifold mechanism, the main components of which are related to the metabolism of dophamine, acetylcholine and cholinesterase activity. A change in the intensity of catalepsy in a multiple introduction of the preparation is due mainly to cholinergic influences.

[Neurochemical aspects of corrective effect of fluoracizine in triphthazine-induced catalepsy in rats].

Following introduction of triftazine (2 mg/kg) and phthoracizine 8 mg/kg, separately and in combination, the intensity of catalepsy, the content of dopamine, norepinephrine (fluorometrically), of acetylcholine (biologically) and the activity of cholinesterase (calorimetrically) in the caudate nuclei and the frontal part of the cortex were determined in rats. It was established that with its one-time administration phthoracizine, while keeping down the intensity of triftazine-induced catalepsy, prevents, at the same time, the development of a number of biochemical effects, viz. there appears a distinctly pronounced tendency toward mormalization of the dopamine, acetylcholine levels and of the cholinesterase activity. A multiple joint administration of the drugs is also attended by lowering the intensity of catalepsy. Then, biochemical changes manifest themselves in more complex interrelations.
