Infants afflicted with rickets demonstrate a reduction in the blood content of vitamin K-dependent protein, osteocalcin, most pronounced in disease of medium gravity, in its calcipenic and phosphopenic varieties. It has been established that there is an inverse correlation between osteocalcin content and the level of parathyroid hormone and a direct correlation between osteocalcin content and the concentration of total and ionized calcium and calcitonin in the blood. It is suggested that measurement of blood osteocalcin in children may serve a diagnostic marker of metabolic disorders and mineralization of osseous tissue.
The development of experimental vitamin D deficiency in rats was accompanied by changes in cyclic nucleotides metabolism in the cortical part of kidneys, namely the increase in cyclic AMP synthesis and the decrease in cyclic GMP. The above changes appear in combination with marked deviations in calcium/phosphorus metabolism.

A cooperative sandwich enzyme immunoassay (EIA) based on the newly produced pair of cooperative monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against human tumor necrosis factor (TNF) was developed and characterized. It was found that, when used simultaneously, cooperative mAbs was capable to bind TNF from its preformed complexes with soluble TNF receptors (sTNF-R), thus providing the effective TNF detection in ex vivo samples by the respective one-step cooperative EIA. While demonstrating typical analytical characteristics regarding variability, dynamic range and specificity, a cooperative EIA offers an advantageous combination of high sensitivity (< 2 pg/ml) and short-time TNF capture protocol (1 hour). Application of cooperative EIA for TNF detection in clinical samples has demonstrated an increased serum TNF levels in patients with the mixed connective disease and infectious endocarditis that positively correlated with severity of systemic inflammatory reactions. Production and EIA application of cooperative mAbs would be promising in development of standardized and clinically applicable immunoassays for cytokines.
Unilateral nephrectomy causes a decrease in provision of vitamin D dihydro derivatives in pregnant rats, which correlated with the development of hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia as well as with an increased content of parathyroid hormone. Fetuses of these females contained less amount of mineral components and active metabolites of vitamin D. Neonates, being born by these females with the nephrectomy, had vitamin D deficiency, which was manifested as a decrease in content of active vitamin D metabolites and minerals as well as an increase in activity of alkaline phosphatase and in the content of parathyroid hormone.
The absorption of [3H]-vitamin D3 in the intestine and its hydroxylation in the liver were higher in vitamin D-deficient rats than in vitamin D-treated ones. The higher is the vitamin content in the organism, the greater part of the label is occupied by unchanged vitamin D3. It is supposed that both absorption of the vitamin in the intestine and its 25-hydroxylation in hepatocytes may decrease with a rise of the vitamin D3 amount. This activates a mechanism of protection from the vitamin D redundancy.
