[Neurological aspects of multiple myeloma].

Neurological complications were examined in 30 patients with multiple myeloma. The neurological syndromes which play the key role in the clinical picture of the disease were distinguished. The pathogenetic mechanisms of the development of the individual symptoms and the methods for their treatment are discussed.

[Late sequelae of tuberculous meningitis].

The paper contains a clinico-morphological description of a case with late sequelae of treated tubercular meningitis. The patient at 7 years of age had tuberculous meningitis which was treated by suboccipital and endolumbar administration of streptomycin. Following 12 years, epileptical seizures ensued with an eventual gradual weakness in the extremities leading to profound spastic tetraparesis. During the last years of life contractures and stem symptoms developed. The morphological picture was characterized by posttuberculous fibrous leptomeningitis with an extensive internal hydrocephalus, universal sclerosis of the cerebral and spinal vessels, disseminated demyelinization in the spinal cord and brain, a distinct improverishment of the grey matter by ganglionic cells. The result of liquorohemodynamical disorders was a syringolike cavity in the spinal cord. Under the ependima of the laral ventricle calcified cholesteatomas were found, which are considered as complications of suboccipital punctures in administering streptomycin.

[Neurologic changes in systemic lupus erythematosus].

All the 200 observed cases of lupus erythematosus showed neurological changes. Among these patients in 17 cases lesions of the nervous system were the main manifestations. Certain neurological syndromes correlated with the degree of activity of the lupoid process. Prognostically unfavorable were developing strokes, convulsive syndromes, symptomatical psychoses, cerebral hypertensive syndrome, lesions of the spinal cord.

[Psychopathologic manifestations in systemic lupus erythematosus].

The authors studied 200 cases of systemic lupus erythematosus. In most of the patients (117 cases) they exhibited neurasthenic symptoms and somato-psychic adynamia. In 3 cases there was a hallucinatory syndrome and in 2 - a hallucinatory-paranoid psychosis. The pathomorphological findings depicted organic brain lesions (vasculitis). A supplementary factor promoting mental disturbances in some cases could be an overdosage of corticosteroids and kidney lesions.
