[Psychogenic neurotic depression in women (psychopathological and psychosomatic aspects)].

Examination of 85 female inpatients with psychogenic neurotic mood disorders aged from 18 to 48 years has found the following depression syndrome variants: asthenic (42 patients), anxiety (14), asthenoanxiety (15), anxiety-melancholic (14). Hypothymia both mildly or moderately expressed and psychosomatic disorders as functional disturbances of reproductive, nervous and cardiovascular systems, were found. These disturbances were qualified as somatoform disorders. The most typical was autonomic dystonia syndrome. During the course of depression, somatization of psychic disorders was increasing, being most distinct in asthenic variants.

[The humoral immunity characteristics of women with neurotic depressions].

The levels of autoantibodies and their anti-idiotypes to proteins of nervous tissue (S100b, GFAP, MP65 and nerve growth factor) were studied in 85 women of 18-48 years of age with psychogenic neurotic depressions. It was found that the changes of the levels of autoantibodies to the proteins of nervous tissue correspond to various somatoautonomic manifestations and correlate with severity of depression, its typological variations and duration of the disease. The data obtained show a close relationship between nervous and immune systems that was expressed by some parallelism of the dynamics of the changes of both neurotic depressive symptoms and serum immunoreactivity to neuroantigens.

[The treatment of neurotic depression by using extremely high-frequency electromagnetic radiation].

Extremely high frequencies of electromagnetic waves (EHF-therapy) were used for the treatment of 53 women with asthenic, anxious and combined forms of depressions together with other methods (psychopharmacological treatment and psychotherapy). The control group which consisted of 27 analogous patients was treated without EHF-therapy. In the former group the recovery was observed in 50.9% of cases, considerable improvement in 41.5% and the improvement in 7.6% of cases. Meanwhile in the control group the treatment resulted in the recovery in 3.7%, in the considerable improvement in 48.1%, in the improvement in 40.7%, of cases. No clinical changes occurred in the rest control patients. The highest therapeutical effect was observed in patients with asthenic neurotic depression (recovery in 66.7%).

[Autoantibodies to brain tissue antigens in epilepsy patients].

The observation of 38 patients with different forms of epilepsy was carried out in terms of autoantibodies (aAB) to nervous tissue proteins: p16, p30 and S-100. The pathological increase or decrease of aAB titers to at least one of the antigens (AG) mentioned above was found in 31 cases. The qualitatively new approach was further used for the revelation of aAB to S-100. Not the very protein was adsorbed on the plates for immunoenzyme assay but antiidiotypic Abs which were the "mirror reflection" of corresponding protein molecules' determinants. The authors suggested that the method permitted to estimate the level of aAB to the whole complex of AG determinants. Thus, the percent of positive tests was approximately twice higher. The index of aAB binding by corresponding anti-idiotypes was decreased in 29 patients. It's quite possible that it formed some conditions for brain tissue damages by aAB.

[An immunoenzyme analysis of the neurospecific proteins in the blood serum of epilepsy patients].

Serum levels of glyofibrillar acid protein (GFAP), alpha-2 glycoprotein (A2GP), alpha-1 brain globulin (A1BG), alpha-2 brain globulin (A2BG) were measured in 41 epileptic patients (2 groups--with convulsive and non-convulsive forms of the disease) with the help of "sandwich" variant of enzyme immunoassay and double-centered enzyme immunoassay on the basis of column immunosorption chromatography. Investigations were performed in the interval from the first to the 30th day after the fit. The level of at least one of neurospecific proteins was elevated in 65.2% of patients. The same changes were revealed in one third of patients during the period of 30 days. Frequency discovering of A1BG as compared to A2GP was significantly lower only in patients with convulsive epilepsy. It allowed the authors to suggest, that serum antigenic levels in patients with various forms of epilepsy were different.

[Seizure-free paroxysms in epilepsy and migraine].

Fourty epileptic and 66 migraine patients were examined. The differences in clinical features of headache paroxysms, consciousness disorders, psycho-sensory++, viscero-autonomic++ and affective spells were determined. The elements of confused consciousness, short-lived and local autonomic responses were characteristic of seizure-free epileptic attacks. Migrainous paroxysms were multiform and pronounced in terms of autonomic disorders, had lesser depth and incidence of consciousness disorders with longer lasting vaso-autonomic++ crises.

Consciousness Disorders↗

[Neurologic and mental disorders in patients with migraine and in their children].

To specify indications for differentiated therapy, a study was made of the characteristic features of the psychopathological picture of the interictal period of migraine in 50 women aged 28 to 60 years suffering from different forms of migrainous attacks. Besides, the neuropsychic disorders were also examined in those patients' children. The first group was made up of migraine patients in whom paroxysmal psychic disorders resembling convulsion-free epileptic attacks ranked first in the clinical structure of the interictal period. In the second group patients, of paramount importance was the hysterical symptomatology. The third group patients suffered from somatized depressions. The differentiated therapy of psychic disorders of the interictal period favoured the deceleration of migrainous attacks in all the three groups patients.

[The prognosis of psychomotor development in children with a perinatal brain lesion].

The question as to the prognosis of severity of motor and psychic disturbances in children with perinatally damaged brains is the issue of interest for their parents during the first months of the patients' life, and of the great medico-social value. Retrospective analysis of peculiarities of the patients psychic and neurologic development allowed identification of some prognostic criteria which displayed a certain degree of reliability as the early predictors of further development of a child. These criteria could be derived from the indices of mental development and EEG findings at the early months of a child's life.

Birth Injuries↗

[Late sequelae of intrauterine and birth-related lesions of the brain].

The article analyzes the characteristics of the motor and mental development of children with a history of intrauterine and birth-related damage to the brain. On the basis of a long-term follow-up the authors have identified correlation between the severity of cerebral damage and the course of pregnancy and parturition and describe characteristics of the psychomotor development of children with a history of brain damage of varying degree. An emphasis is made on the necessity of prolonged observation of children with a history of perinatal encephalopathy and of the conduction of adequate rehabilitative therapy of patients with a curable form of childhood cerebral paralysis, which is conducive to the better social adaptation of such patients.

[Neuropeptide thyroliberin in ultra low doses--anticonvulsant defense of the brain].

Thyroliberin (TRH) promoting endogeneous antidepressive effect is the most general regulator of the central mechanisms and visceral functions (especially respiration). Our group pioneered in applying the anticonvulsant action of TRH after local intranasal application). This application of TRH in ultra-low doses contrast the method of systemic TRH administration in the large doses). In our experiments intranasal application of 10(-8), 10(-10) and 10(-12) mol/l TRH significantly inhibited the severe epileptic motor fits in rats induced by PTZ. EEG also confirms beneficent effect of TRH (TRH suppressed SWD in cortex, amygdala and hippocamp). In the experiment that follows compared effects of TRH (pyroGlu-His-Pro-NH2) and its metabolite dipeptide His-Pro (10(-10), 10(-8) mol/l). The experiments make more precise that only TRH but not His-Pro posses the anticonvulsant properties. There is a good believe that medical potentialities of TRH have not been exhausted and its new possibilities of its usage will be revealed in epileptology.

[Autoantibodies against nerve tissue proteins long after cranio-cerebral injury].

20 samples of serum of patients with remote consequences of brain trauma were tested to detect autoantibodies (a-AB) against brain proteins S-100 and NKP. Essential pathology was not found out by standard solid-phase immunoassay. The original method was used to detect a-AB to the whole complex of antigen determinants. Using this method the elevation of a-AB against S-100 and NKP was shown at 16 cases. The disturbance of idiotype-antiidiotype regulation was revealed at this group of patients. It is suggested that insufficient level of corresponding antiidiotypes creates the conditions for autoimmune aggressor of a-AB against brain tissue.
