[Effect of hemosorption on microcirculation, humoral autoimmunity and lipid peroxidation in patients with stable angina pectoris].

Microhemo- and lymphocirculation, capillary permeability, humoral autoimmunity and lipid peroxidation were determined in 46 patients with Functional Classes III-IV stable angina concurrent with multiple atherosclerotic coronary lesions 24 hours following the second hemosorption session. The clinical efficiency of hemosorption was observed in 47.8% of patients with stenotic coronary atherosclerosis refractory to antianginal therapy. In this group of patients, hemosorption led to accelerated microcirculation, increased microcirculatory reserve potentials and decreased microvascular resistance at rest and in reactive postischemic hyperemia. In patients with abnormal humoral autoimmunity and lipid peroxidation, hemosorption resulted in their hormalization.

[A method of determining the permeability of erythrocyte membranes for monovalent ions].

A modified method for the determination of red cell membrane permeability for sodium and potassium monovalent ions is described. The described modification essentially cuts down the time of investigation and accelerates potassium ion transport. Instead of ouabain, an imported reagent, strophanthin K glycoside manufactured in the USSR is used in the test.

[Mutagenic and DNA-damaging effect of potassium bichromate in Escherichia coli cells].

Mutagenic effects and DNA degradation in Escherichia coli cells treated with potassium bichromate were studied in this work. It is estimated that events taking place in cells treated with the mutagen are controlled by recB recC and sbcB gene products. The method for sedimentation analysis has revealed DNA degradation. The use of the impulse label of 3H-thymidine made it possible to detect DNA breaks in the daughter strands. This effect of potassium bichromate on DNA degradation is, possibly, connected with mutagenic repair.

[Effect of alpha-tocopherol on the mutagenic repair pathways in Escherichia coli cells].

It is shown in the present work that the antimutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol is related to suppression of mutagenic repair controlled by the lexA gene. During this process mutations occur in chromosomal replication forks, provided cells are in the logarithmic phase of growth. Lesions in nonreplicating DNA resulting from the direct alkylation of nitrosoguanidine are apparently realized in the course of repair errors formation, the process being unaffected in any significant way by alpha-tocopherol.

[Antimutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol on the gene mutation frequency in Salmonella].

The work presents the data on the antimutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol on the frequency of N-nitroso-N-methyl urea induced gene mutations in Salmonella in vitro and in vivo. In vitro tests have revealed the dependence of decreasing the rate of induced mutations both on combination of treatments with mutagen/antimutagen and on the dose of the mutagen. In vivo tests have demonstrated that the mutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol depends on the duration of its action on organisms.

[Salmonella typhimurium as a test system for detecting the mutagenic activity of environmental pollutants. I. The mutagenic action of heavy metal salts in in vivo and in vitro systems without metabolic activation].

The work presents the data on mutagenic effects of heavy metal salts (Zn and Cd) on Salmonella typhimurium test strains using mutagenicity test in vitro without metabolic activation and host-mediated assay. The techniques used enabled to determine also the types of mutations arising from the exposure to ZnCl2 and CdCl2.

[Salmonella typhimurium--test system for detecting the mutagenic activity of environmental pollutants. II. Mutagenic effect of heavy metal salts in an in vitro system with metabolic activation].

Mutagenic effect of zinc chloride on Salmonella typhimurium strain was detected using in vitro metabolic activation system. Cadmium chloride showed no significant mutagenic activity in the same system. It is recommended to use both in vitro and in vivo metabolic activation systems in mutagenicity testing of chemicals.

[The concentrations of 11-OHKS in the blood and 17-OHKS and 17-KS in the urine of children born of mothers with diabetes mellitus].

A total of 61 couples (mother and her neonate) were examined for the purpose of ascertaining the influence of diabetes mellitus in the mother on the glucocorticosteroid level in her blood and the blood and the urine of her newborn boby; a relationship between the child's condition and the hormone level in its blood and urine was ascertained. There was revealed an increased content of 11-OCS in the maternal and neonatal blood, and also a greater 17-OCS and 17-KS excretion in children in a prolonged course of diabetes (3 to 15 years), in its decompensation, complication of diabetes by microangiopathy, and also when the baby was born asphyxiated and in the presence of signs of diabetic fetopathy.
