[Diagnosis of tumors of the parotid gland by sialography and saialoscintigraphy. A comparative study on 49 patients (author's transl)].

169 patients with different diseases of the salivary glands were examined by means of sialography and sialoscintigraphy. The results of these examinations were analysed by a blindfold test. The sialographic diagnosis was correct for 47 of 49 tumors checked by histologic examinations. There is no specific criterium for the scintigraphic determiation of a tumor; there are concentrations as well as filling defects and retentions. The correct side, however, was found by scintigraphy in 46 cases. Only if a Warthin's tumor is suspected, the diagnosis can be confirmed by scintigraphy if a concentration is found. Generally, sialoscintigraphy should only be executed if sialography has technically failed. A distinction by means of sialography of benign and malignant tumors is not possible.

[Two cases of infantile cortical hyperostosis (monostotic form) (author's transl)].

Two cases of infantile cortical hyperostosis, both of the monostotic form, are described. In the first patient the right clavicle was involved; the disease may have been present from birth, but resulted in the infant's admission at the age of six weeks. The second patient was a 7-month old infant who developed the disease after an upper respiratory tract infection. There were only minor changes in the left clavicle. Both cases regressed almost completely within six months. The discussion deals with the largely unsolved problems concerning infantile cortical hyperostosis.

[Endolymphatic radionuclide therapy of the malignant melanoma (author's transl)].

In the radiological hospital of Essen, 139 patients with malignant melanomas on the extremities have been submitted to an endolymphatic radionuclide therapy between May 29, 1970 and January 1, 1976. The survival rates of the different tumor stages are indicated and the changes of the survival curves since the last evaluation of August 31, 1973 are discussed. If the endolymphatic radionuclide therapy is applied, there is no risk of important side effects or complications. If an adequate surgical therapy has been effected prior to the radiotherapy, we consider the endolymphatic radionuclide therapy to be indicated above all in case of a malignant melanoma of the clinical stage I or II when the primary tumor is situated in the lower extremity.

[The value of sialography (evaluation of 251 cases) (author's transl)].

Sialography is of value for showing opaque or nonopaque stones in the maxillary glands. Possible complications (inflammation, abscess and fistula) can also be shown. Acute and chronic inflammation and sialadenoses show typical pictures. The diagnosis of tumors is less certain, genignity or malignity cannot be determined.
