[The clinico-laboratory criteria of brain death in neurosurgical patients].

With the purpose of developing scientifically substantiated criteria for brain death complex of clinical and physiological, biochemical, physicochemical, and morphological studies was initiated in 55 patients in a critical state because of a dangerous craniocerebral injury, tumours, and vascular affections of the brain. Generalized in the paper are well-known parameters characterizing irreversibility of changes. The following items are to be regarded as the principal criteria for brain death at the present stage of development of medicine: death of truncus cerebri and irreversibility of metabolic disturbances in brain activity.

[Comparative evaluation of effectiveness of narcotic analgesics for intravenous autoanalgesia].

The three groups of patients who had morphine hydrochloride, phentanyl and dipidolor been used for intravenous autoanalgesia were examined. In each group, the state of the central hemodynamics, pulmonary ventilation and gas composition of the blood were studied. The effectiveness of analgesia was assessed, side effects were considered. The effectiveness of the use for postoperative intravenous autoanalgesia of morphine and phentanyl has been proved.

[Comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of various narcotic analgesics after intravenous autoanalgesia].

The article is devoted to an investigation of intravenous analgesia with different narcotic analgetic drugs (phentanyl, morphine, dipidolor). A comparative assessment of the influence upon central hemodynamics, lung ventilation, acid-base metabolism and blood gases was performed, as well as the degree of analgesia in using these drugs. A conclusion is made that morphine and phentanyl are preferable for the intravenous postoperative autoanalgesia.

[Clinical picture and treatment of acute thallium poisoning].

The authors report results of treatment of 16 patients whose disease was caused by premeditated poisoning with thallium fluoride. The first signs of the disease appeared in 5 patients 30-38 hours and in the remaining 2-4 days after ingestion of poisoned food and were manifested by dyspepsia, leg pain. Then neurological symptoms of polyneuritis and encephalomyelitis prevailed. Within 1-3 weeks alopecia, xeroderma, herpetic phenomena appeared. Most patients showed disorders of the psycho-emotional sphere (intoxication encephalopathies of anxiety-paranoia type). Severe grades of thallitoxicosis were marked by involvement of the myocardium, liver and kidneys. Excretion of the nucleus is slow: with the urine (45%), with feces (55%). For correct diagnosis and for solution medical forensic problems examination of the content of thallium in the blood, urine, feces and hair is of importance. Treatment tactics are described in detail.

[Use of obsidan and potassium phosphate for correction of the oxygen transport function of the blood in peritonitis].

The parameters of ABC, blood gases, content of nonorganic phosphorus, 2,3 DPG and ATP in erythrocytes were studied in 161 patients with diffuse peritonitis during the early postoperative period. Considerable alterations of the oxygen transport function of blood in these patients were found. The use of Obzidan and monosubstituted potassium phosphate prevents a decrease of nonorganic phosphorus, 2,3 DPG and ATP in erythrocytes, improves the oxygen supply of the organism. The time of treatment is shorter.
