[Computer system of electronystagmographic examination. Part I. Measuring equipment and algorithm of ENG test].

The work presents the computer system created by the author for automatic registration and analysing oculomotor response records evoked by the stimulation of the vestibular organ. The basis elements of the system had been described. It consists of microcomputer IBM PC/XT/AT, measurement and stimulatory apparatus, multimodular controlling and analytical software as well as the algorithm of system management.

[Computer system of electronystagmographic examination. Part II. Analysis of nystagmus].

It is a description of automatic registration and analysing of the eyes movement. In this method had beed applied a test of the eye movement in the limited momentary speed, test of the time taken by the deflection and the test of unanimity in analysing both deflection and direction of the quick phase. The analysis procedure has two stages. In the first stage the signal undergoes an introductory analysis which is aimed at smoothing it out and approximating it a saw-toothed shape. At this stage the computer identifies the phases, direction of nystagmus and deflection which are not real eye deflections. In the second stage the computer makes measurements of nystagmus parameters.

[Difficulties with diagnosis of elongated styloid process syndrome].

Elongated styloid process syndrome courses in the form of the chronic, noncharacteristic ailment of the pain, within facial skeleton and the lasting, noneffective treatment. This study shows (for example three own cases of elongated styloid process syndrome) the difficulty of diagnose in this group, which can course under the form of dysphagia. This study point at the necessity excludes elongated styloid process syndrome in every unexplained pains of craniofacial and cervical, especially that, easy digital palpation near tonsils and spot film (X-ray) of elongated styloid process syndrome allow to put the right diagnose.

[Assistive devices for tonsillectomy under general anesthesia].

Tonsillectomy may cause many complications. Frequent and one of the most important of them is massive bleeding. Haemorrhage in the region of the inferior pole of tonsilla is peculiarly difficult to subdue. The authors describe two devices of own design for tonsillectomy under general anesthesia. "The junction" as well as "the support" make surgeon work easier. Intervention is also the less time consuming and may be done without aid of an assistant. "The support" seems to be especially recommendable for smaller laryngological departments not equipped with Kleinsasser set of instruments.

Vratizolin in treatment of mouth and ear herpetic infections: comparison with conventional therapy.

Vratizolin is a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug registered for use on humans in Poland. Published and unpublished data on Vratizolin showed that it has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antimycotic, analgesic and immunomodulating activities. The purpose of these randomized, parallel-group studies was to compare Vratizolin with other standard drugs, used for the treatment of mouth and ear infections. The study involved 193 patients with recurrent Herpes simplex, Herpes zoster oticus, Stomatitis herpetica and infections of the external ear canal. Vratizolin was used topically, as 3% hydrophilic cream or ointment, four times daily. Standard treatment included zinc ointment, Aphtin (boric acid plus glycerin), Oxycort and Dicortinef. In almost all of the treated patients the efficacy of Vratizolin treatment was superior to the drugs mentioned above. It was assessed by measuring disappearance of both objective (edema, erythema, crusting) and subjective symptoms (pain, burning and itching).

[Expert testimony in vibration disease in inland navigation employees].

110 inland navigation workers, exposed to vibration and noise, have undergone electronystagmographic examinations. 61.7% subjects have developed disturbances of vestibular organ. The occurrence of those disturbances has been found to vary with the duration of vibration - and - noise exposure i.e. with the employment system. The 24 - hr - system poses a greater risk of vestibular organ disturbances than the 12 - hr - system. The investigation should promote setting - up some certification of the vibration disease in water transport workers.
