Aging in 1D discrete spin models and equivalent systems.

We derive exact expressions for a number of aging functions that are scaling limits of nonequilibrium correlations, R(t(w),t(w)+t) as t(w)-->infinity, t/t(w)-->theta, in the 1D homogenous q-state Potts model for all q with T = 0 dynamics following a quench from T = infinity. One such quantity is (0)(t(w));sigma-->(n)(t(w)+t)> when n/square root of ([t(w))-->z. Exact, closed-form expressions are also obtained when an interlude of T = infinity dynamics occurs. Our derivations express the scaling limit via coalescing Brownian paths and a "Brownian space-time spanning tree," which also yields other aging functions, such as the persistence probability of no spin flip at 0 between t(w) and t(w)+t.

[Occurrence of Achatina fulica Bowdich, 1822 (Mollusca, Gastropoda) in Brazil: intermediate snail host of angiostrongyliasis].

Achatina fulica, the intermediate snail host of angiostrongyliasis and also an agricultural pest, is being bred in Brazil for human consumption as "escargot". The snail has escaped from its artificial breeding sites and its dispersal in Itariri country, State of S. Paulo, is reported here for the first time. A. fulica is a transmitter of the rat lungworm Angiostrongylus cantonensis, nematode which causes meningoencephalic angiostrongyliasis; the risks of human contamination are commented on.

The Greig cephalopolysyndactyly syndrome: report of a family and review of the literature.

The Greig cephalopolysyndactyly syndrome in characterized by a set of craniofacial defects (macrocephaly, broad nasal root) leading to peculiar facial appearance, postaxial (occasionally preaxial) polydactyly of hands, preaxial (rarely postaxial) polydactyly of feet, and syndactyly of fingers and toes. Occasionally other skeletal or nonskeletal defects are present. This is an autosomal dominant trait with complete penetrance and variable expressivity. Prognosis for mental and physical development of the affected patients is good, surgery being indicated primarily for aesthetic and functional correction of polydactyly and syndactyly. We report on a Brazilian family in whom the mother and two of three sons were affected.
