[Results of 189 Visotrast studies in the differential diagnosis of acute intestinal obstruction].

In cases of an acute abdomen, bowel obstruction cannot always be excluded. In this case the administration of oral water soluble contrast media (Visotrast) is helpful. On the basis of their experience with 189 patients who underwent gastrointestinal x-ray examination with Visotrast (157 spontaneous mechanical obstruction, 32 postoperative ileus) the authors recommend this diagnostic procedure in difficult situations.

[Cholelithiasis after stomach resection?].

The prevalence of all forms of cholelithiasis in patients suffering from peptic ulceration and following partial gastric resection has been examined on the basis of analysing 28 204 autopsies from 1953 to 1979. The review of the post-mortem reports proves considerable gallstone incidence of 30,84% in the above mentioned groups of patients. There was no statistic difference with regard to the prevalence of gallstone formation in the collective as a whole, in the ulcer group or the group with partial gastric resection. Our results obtained confirm the invalidity of the term "postresection-cholelithiasis."

[Technique, indication and results of mesenterial-plication ad mod. Childs-Phillips in the treatment of adhesion ileus (author's transl)].

Surgical correction of adhesion ileus can only be performed by isolating the adherent loops of the gut. This entails lacerations of the serosa which would be the cause of new adhesions. Therefore, small serosal defects would be covered by the technique after Wichmann. In larger and multiple defects of the serosa the authors recommend the intestinal plication after Childs-Phillips. In 17 years 47 operations of this kind were performed, 20 patients could now be followed up. Internal splinting of the small intestine should only be performed in cases of peritonitis with paralysis of the gut, but absence of larger defects of the serosa.

[Invalidation of a girl after 7 years of succesfull malingering of a wound (author's transl)].

Provocation of wounds by malingering is one of the most typical artefacts in surgery. In this paper the succesful maintaining of a wound in a girl for over 7 years is demonstrated. In this time the girl underwent 25 surgical operations and was invalidated at the age of 18 years. In patients with non-healing wounds, which cannot be explained by the rules of general pathology, doctors are well advised to think of the possibilities of malingering at an early time.
