[Attention and associative memory in patients with sequelae of ischemic stroke].

To study social and adaptation potentialities of 56 patients with a history of ischemic brain stroke, they were examined for attention and associative memory (AM). Use was made of neuropsychological techniques and phonooscillography of latent conditions of AM. The patients manifested deceleration and instability of all the time parameters of the process of attention (tempo, rate, quality, productivity, accuracy), its depletion (in hemispheric foci) and instability (in stem derangement), as well as a decrease of the level of active attention and of the capability of its switching over (especially in pathology of the left cerebral hemisphere). This evidences restricted potentialities of postinsult patients in adaptation. Examination of AM revealed not only a decline of the scope and deceleration of the time processes of its organization but also showed the dominant hemisphere to play an essential part in the retention (memory scope) and extraction (latent period) of mnemonic associations.

[Determination of the professional work capacity of patients with initial manifestations of cerebral circulatory insufficiency].

In 45 patients with initial signs of cerebral circulation insufficiency involved professionally in work demanding high attention levels, the deceleration and instability of all time parameters of attention (rate, quality, productivity, precision) was detected with its exhaustiveness increased, active attention levels and switch-over capabilities decreased. This suggested the instability and reduced mobility of nervous processes with restricted capability of adaptation to mental loading. This approach can yield clinical criteria of professional rehabilitation potentialities of these patients.

[Characteristics of the latent states of short-term verbal memory in patients with sequelae of cerebral circulatory disorders].

A study of 50 patients in the recovery period of cerebral circulation impairment and 11 healthy subjects was carried out to investigate latent conditions of short-term verbal memory (STVM), using phonooscillography with subsequent statistical computerized treatment. On the basis of the time-course of latent conditions (16500 phonooscillograms), the temporal organization of STVM was studied. It was established that the patients as compared with the healthy subjects showed substantial changes in temporal parameters of mnemonic processes: the duration of latent conditions of STVM increased, the rate of its adaptation decreased, regular pattern and balance of the main temporal parameters were disrupted.

[Oscillographic speech recording as a method of differential diagnosis of different forms of dysarthria].

In order to differentiate paralytic, cerebellar and extrapyramidal forms of dysarthria the authors used the method of oscillography of speech in 20 normal and 30 patients. It was established that as differential diagnostical oscillographic criteria such phenomena as disorders of articulation, the latent period, role of speech, duration in the pronounciation of separate elements of speech, the correlation of the duration of words and pauses, amplitude of fluctuations and "oscillogrpahic intonation" of speech can be used.

[An oscilllographic study of the speech of patients with cerebral circulatory disorders during the period of recovery from aphasia].

The articulation-phonographic (oscillographic) method of registration based on the transformation of acoustic fluctuations into an electrical signal was used for the determination of a character and degree of speech disturbances following brain strokes. Twenty normals and 18 patients with speech disturbances following brain strokes were studied in dynamics. The authors evaluated the duration of the latent period and the pronounciation rate of phonemes, words phrases. The following disturbances were marked in the motor speech defects: articulational, lengthening of the latent period, retardation of the speech rate; in the sensorial - lability of sound perception, failure of combinations. Thus, the aphatic disturbances, objectivized by the oscillographic method, reveal the pathology of various language levels (phonemes, words, phrases) and depend not only on the spasticity and apraxy of the vocal muscles, but on the time of the course of the cortical processes. The rehabilitation of the speech activity takes place simultaneously not on all the levels, while the most vulnerable appears to be the phonemic level.
