[Disorders in the immune regulation and hemostasis as factors triggering the proliferative retinopathy in diabetes mellitus].

A comprehensive clinical- immunological- and-hemostasiological study of the lachrymal fluid and blood of 105 patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) showed that an "extreme" activity of the local antibody-dependent response to collagens, DNA, cytokine, TNF-alpha, increased levels of the circulating immune complexes (CIC) and of antibodies to DNA in the blood serum as well as local immune insufficiency and deficiency of free antibodies to collagens and TNF-alpha in the lachrymal fluid and serum during the onset of proliferative forms and traction retinal detachment are the key manifestations of the immune pathology in a progressing DR. Signs of hypercoagulation, free heparin deficiency, a reduced activity of fibrinolysis and insufficiency of the anti-thrombin system were detected with the development of the chronic syndrome of disseminated intravascular blood coagulation. Trends of the immunohemostatic correction of the activity of the local and systemic autoimmune responses and of hemostasis were substantiated during the generally accepted therapy of diabetes mellitus and of systemic micro- and-macroangiopathy.

[A comprehensive study of the mechanisms of the development of chronic inflammation in periodontitis].

Bacteriological and cytological analysis of the saliva, dental plaques, and gingival fluid was carried out in 48 patients with periodontitis and 25 donors. The concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1 and TNF-alpha were increased, the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4 and TFR beta-1 were decreased, and MIF production was suppressed in the patients in comparison with donors. Important theoretical and practical recommendations are offered.

[The phenotypic expression of the genes controlling the yield of a factor suppressing macrophage migration to Candida albicans antigens and tuberculin in mice].

The regulation of the synthesis of factor inhibiting the migration of macrophages in response to C. albicans antigen in CBA (H-2k) and C57BL/6 (H-2b) mice has been studied. The low level of macrophage migration inhibition factor in response to this antigen is due to the existence of cyclophosphamide-inhibited specific suppressors. Differences between various strains of mice ensue from different activity of suppressors of thymic origin, whose nature has been revealed as the result of the transfer of marrow cells treated with anti-Thy-1 serum.

[Experimental lymphokine treatment of the wound process].

It is shown in experiment on the rabbits that the autologous supernatants of the culture of stimulating lymphocytes and the fractions of lymphokines with mol. weight 40000-20000 and 60000-70000 considerably reduced the periods of wound healing.

[Activation of monocytes during hemodialysis].

The authors conducted a clinical study of the hypothesis of interleukin-1 regarded as one of the most important topics in the problem of biocompatibility of dialytic membranes. Hemodialyses (HD) were performed using different cellulose and synthetic membranes. During HD research was made into the kinetics of monocytes and lymphocytes, monocytic activation expressed by a stimulation index, and the deposition of blood elements on the membranes of parallel membrane dialysers. All types of cellulose membranes were characterized by acute dialytic monocytopenia. Synthetic membranes produced no considerable monocytopenia. No convincing data on the dependence of the monocytic stimulation effect on membrane material were obtained. Possible mechanisms of monocytic activation during HD were discussed.

[Stimulation of phagocytic function by factors inhibiting leukocyte and macrophage migration in humans].

Fractions containing macrophage migration inhibition factor (MIF) and leucocyte migration inhibition factor (LIF) were obtained using Sephadex G-200 filtration from supernatant fluids of human lymphocyte cultures stimulated by PHA. The fractions were tested for the ability to affect migration and phagocytic activity of target cells. Peripheral blood leucocyte migration capacity was inhibited by the fraction with the molecular mass of 60,000-70,000 D (LIF), while migration activity of mouse peritoneal exudate cells was suppressed by the fraction with the molecular mass of 20,000-30,000 D (MIF). MIF- and LIF-containing fractions increased almost three-fold Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytic activity of neutrophils.

[Regulating effect of bone marrow cells on human T-lymphocyte function].

A study was made of the regulatory effect of human bone marrow cells in two experimental systems: lymphocyte proliferation in response to PHA, and spontaneous and PHA-induced production of macrophage migration inhibition factor (MIF) by peripheral blood lymphocytes. It was shown that bone marrow cells inhibit the proliferative activity of stimulated peripheral blood lymphocytes and induced MIF production. The effect of bone marrow cells on spontaneous MIF production was found to be inconclusive.

[Production of a factor inhibiting macrophage migration to the Candida albicans antigen in mice and their resistance to this microorganism].

Resistance to C. albicans, an opportunistic microorganism, has been studied in CBA and C57BL/6 mice, oppositely responsive in the production of the factor inhibiting migration of macrophages to antigen obtained from this fungus. The study has shown that CBA mice, highly responsive in the macrophage migration inhibiting factor, are less resistant to C. albicans, while C57BL/6 mice with low response to this antigen are more resistant to this infective agent. Macrophages play, probably, a certain role in the generalization of the process because not all phagocytized C. albicans cells are digested.

[Nature of the cells regulating the production of a migration inhibition factor in C57BL/6 strain mice with low response to Candida albicans antigen].

The authors studied cell regulation of macrophage migration inhibition factor (MIF) in response to Candida albicans antigen in C57BL/6 mice. It was revealed that low MIF production in response to this antigen is determined by the existence of specific suppressors which are inhibited by cyclophosphamide. The differences between the mouse lines are accounted for by different activity of suppressor cells of the thymic origin, which is confirmed by the treatment with anti-Thy1-serum and by bone marrow cell transfer.

[Interstrain differences in mice in developing migration inhibition factors to Candida albicans antigens].

The authors studied the time course of MIF production by lymphocytes of CBA (H-2k), C57BL/6J (H-2b) and (CBA X C57BL/6J) F1 (H-2b/H-2k) mice sensitized to Candida albicans antigens. The interstrain differences in lymphokin production were identified, CBA mice appeared to be highly responsive, whereas C57BL/6J to be low-responsive. Partial hybridological analysis made it possible to ascertain the presence of the dominant type heredity of high MIF production in response to Candida albicans antigens.
