Collective bargaining in the nursing profession: salient issues and recent developments in healthcare reform.

This article examines practical workplace issues and recent developments related to collective bargaining in the nursing profession, with emphasis on issues affected by recent reforms in the healthcare industry. Included are examples of issues most salient to nurses in their efforts to organize, given the reforms. An overview of recent developments in the political, legal, and local areas is also provided.

The significance of autonomy in the nursing home administrator profession: a qualitative study.

Nursing home administration is seeing high turnover and low entrance into the profession. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with thirty NH administrators and coded using qualitative analytical techniques. It was found that constrained autonomy contributes to job dissatisfaction in the nursing home administrator profession, and that autonomy contributes to increased satisfaction and may lower administrator turnover.

The importance of team level tacit knowledge and related characteristics of high-performing health care teams.

Team level tacit knowledge is related to the collective knowledge of the team members. It is the shared experience that results in the ability to successfully anticipate the reactions of teammates in typical and nontypical situations. This study evaluates how tacit knowledge and related team characteristics influence the performance of cardiothoracic surgery teams.
