[Research advance on lake ecosystem dynamic models].

Starting with the role of system analysis in lake ecosystem research, this paper summarized the tentative procedures and softwares for studying the dynamics of lake ecosystem. There are several main stages in modeling the dynamics of lake ecosystem, namely, problems identification, mathematical formulation, computation, validation, sensitive analysis, calibration, and verification. In the modeling, selecting temporal and spatial scales is essential but complex. Since 1960s, a rapid progress has been made in modeling the dynamics of lake ecosystem, being developed from simple zero-dimension models to complex ecological-aquatic-hydrodynamic ones, among which, exergy was applied popularly as an objective function in modeling. In this paper, LakeWeb and LEEDS (Lake Eutrophication, Effect, Dose, and Sensitivity model) were analyzed as examples. In China, the development of lake ecosystem dynamic models could be traced back to 1980s, and most of them were focused on Lake Dianch, Lake Taihu, Lake Chaohu and Lake Donghu. Some softwares such as CE-QUAL-ICM, WASP, AQUATOX, PAMOLARE and CAEDYM were developed to simulate lake ecosystem dynamics, among which, CE-QUAL-ICM is more suitable for long and narrow water bodies. WASP consists of three parts, i. e., DYNHYD, EUTRO, and TOXI. AQUATOX is an ecological risk model, and the parameters are mainly calibrated in U. S. A, which has limited its further application in China. The software ECOPATH for simulating the energy flows in lakes was also described in this paper. There are still many shortages in the lake ecosystem dynamic models, e. g., the lack of sufficient monitoring data for validation, insufficient consideration of uncertainties and the role of bacteria, and inconsistent relationship with watershed changes. The uncertainties are mainly from the intrinsic uncertainties in aquatic ecosystem, in modeling, in parameters selection, and also in forecast and application. Setting up long-term monitoring and data sharing mechanism, using interpolation to make data more densely, introducing objective functions, dealing with uncertainties, and constructing watershed-lake ecosystem dynamic model could be the available ways for overcoming the shortages.

[Effects of hexamethylene bisacetamide on related genes expression of apoptosis and cell proliferating in human mucoepidermoid carcinoma cell line MEC-1].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of hexamethylene bisacetamide (HMBA) on related genes expression of apoptosis and cell proliferating in human mucoepidermoid carcinoma cell line MEC-1. METHODS: MEC-1 was induced 72 hours by 0.002 mol/L HMBA in vitro. The morphologic observation and the expression of PCNA, bcl-2, bax protein and bcl-2 mRNA were determined by microscope, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and image analysis. RESULTS: The expression of bax, bcl-2 protein and bcl-2 mRNA were higher than control group (P < 0.01). The related genes of cell proliferating PCNA were decreased in control group. CONCLUSIONS: HMBA could inhibit the MEC-1 cell proliferation by down-regulation of PCNA expression, it could also induce apoptosis effectively that might be through the way of up-regulation of bax and bcl-2 gene expression.

[A clinical study on laser peripheral iridoplasty for primary angle-closure glaucoma with positive provocative tests after iridectomy].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of laser peripheral iridoplasty for primary angle closure glaucoma with positive dark room and prone test after laser peripheral iridectomy. METHODS: A long-term prospective study of 56 eyes (34 cases) with primary angle-closure glaucoma was carried out. The patients presented with positive dark room and prone provocative test after laser peripheral iridectomy, and laser peripheral iridoplasty by Double-Frequency Nd:YAG laser was performed on them. Their extent of goniosynechia was less than 1/2 circumference of the anterior chamber angle. Forty-nine eyes (27 cases) of all those studied were acute angle-closure glaucoma and the other 7 eyes (7 cases) were chronic angle-closure glaucoma. The inferior peripheral anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle, the configuration of peripheral iris and intraocular pressure were observed carefully, and the dark room, prone and mydriatic provocative tests were performed. The postoperative follow-up ranged from 1 year to 4 years. RESULTS: The results showed that in all these cases, the peripheral anterior chamber depth was increased, the anterior chamber angle was widened on goniscope and the trabecular meshwork could be visualized widely in static state. All patients did not have ocular hypertension and damage of visual field in the follow up. Mydriatic, dark room and prone provocative tests following laser peripheral iridoplasty were negative. CONCLUSIONS: In some acute angle-closure glaucoma and chronic angle-closure glaucoma patients, the pupillary block is relieved by laser peripheral iridectomy, but provocative tests can also be positive because of the abnormal configuration of the peripheral iris. Pupillary dilation results in peripheral iris bunching, and the surface of the trabecular meshwork can be blocked, hypertension then occurs. But the laser peripheral iridoplasty can improve the shape of the peripheral iris effectively and it can prevent the disease from deteriorating. The goniscopic examination and provocative tests following laser peripheral iridectomy are very important and also effective in detecting this kind of glaucoma.
