Macular lesions in blacks with the presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome.
Six black patients had fundus lesions diagnostic of the presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome. All patients had peripapillary changes or peripheral punched-out chorioretinal lesions, or both. Five of the six had macular subretinal neovascularization, disciform scarring, or an atrophic macular lesion, and one patient had a macular hole; four of five patients tested had a positive histoplasmin skin test. The macular involvement was bilateral in three of the six cases. HLA B-7 was present in one of four patients who had HLA typing. Macular involvement can occur in blacks with the presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome.

An unusual organism causing orbital cellulitis.
Bacterial orbital cellulitis is a feared complication of paranasal sinus infection. Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species are the commoner pathogens involved in these cases. However, anaerobic bacteria and unusual Gram-negative organisms should be suspected as well. We treated a case of bacterial orbital cellulitis due to foci of infected paranasal sinuses caused by Eikenella corrodens, a Gram-negative rod. The patient was managed with intensive antibiotic coverage and surgical intervention.

Psychiatric referral pattern in a burn center.
Patients with burn injuries have unique psychologic problems that frequently require psychiatric care. However, little research has been done on specific patterns of psychiatric referral in burn units. This article addresses the pattern of psychiatric referral for 28 patients over a period of 1 year in a regional burn treatment center. Demographics and characteristics of the patient population are summarized, and reasons for psychiatric referral are noted.
