Rapid radioimmunoassay of myoglobin is developed. The complete procedure requires about 60 min. The procedure might be used in routine laboratory practice. Content of myoglobin constituted from 14 to 56 ng/ml in blood serum preparations of 50 donors. In blood sera of 120 patients with acute myocardial infarction concentration of myoglobin was increased up to 90--6,000 ng/ml within 2-6 hrs, returning to the normal values within 38-48 hrs after the heart attack.
Characteristics of NTP gamma-anilidates (AnpppN) as substrates of E. coli RNA-polymerase have been studied. Michaelis constants for AnpppN are about an order of magnitude greater than those for the usual substrates, whereas the maximum rates differ but unsignificantly. AnpppA is almost completely transformed to polyA and Anppi when synthesis of polyA takes place with AnpppA as the only substrate with denatured DNA as template (reiteration system). The AnpppA-residue is present at the 5'-terminus of RNA synthesized from AnpppA, CTP, UTP and GTP on T7 DNA template by the holo-enzyme.
Three exon regions of the myoglobin gene of Baikal seal Phoca sibirica have been amplified and sequenced. The sequences have been found identical to those for the myoglobin gene of the North Atlantic seal Halichoerus grypus. Thus, these seal species have separated not earlier than 2.2 billion years before present.
The taxonomic position of seven strains of aquatic bacteria from Lake Baikal was determined based on the analysis of the nucleotide sequences of 16 S rRNA gene fragments. Three strains belonged to the gamma-sub-class of Proteobacteria, one strain, to the beta-subclass, and the other three stains were assigned to the genus Bacillus (gram-positive bacteria with a low G+C content).
