[Epidemiologic situation of tuberculosis in Armenia under the present condition].

The epidemiological situation in Armenia is very grave: the tuberculosis cases registered in 1994 are 19.6 per 100,000 inhabitants, this is 16.6% higher than the figure in 1993. Mortality rates in 1994 are 3.1 per 100,000 persons. Morbidity in males is 2.5 times higher than that in females. The greatest proportion of the first cases detected is in the age group of 25-34 years. Infiltrative tuberculosis with multiple decay and its acute course is prevalent in the pattern of tuberculosis morbidity. Activities in prophylactic measures drastically has declined due to power crisis and grave socioeconomic conditions of the republic. Groups of migrants as potential carriers of undiagnosed tuberculosis forms are gaining a great significance among patients with tuberculosis.

[The clinico-biochemical characteristics of periodontal diseases in subjects who are under conditions of constant, permanent stress].

A comparative study of prevalence of periodontal diseases in an indigenous Armenian population and a population of refugees in Armenia has been performed. The refugees population was considered a population of subjects under permanent stress conditions. It has been shown that in the refugees population there are higher prevalence of periodontal diseases, first of all periodontitis, and more marked heaviness of injures in periodontal tissues that those in the indigenous population. These changes were accompanied with elevated signs of disturbances of hemo-endothelial balance. In particular, there were profound alterations of normal ratio of 6-keto-PGF1a/NXB2 and increased level of markers for endothelial disorganization, thrombomodulin and von Willebrand factor, in the blood. It is that stress-induced disturbances of the hemo-endothelial balance among the refugees may contribute to developing periodontal diseases in this population.

[Infrared method of studying the action of vasoactive substances on cerebral circulation].

A method for the investigation of cerebral blood flow changes under the influence of vasoactive drugs has been suggested. The method is based on continuous infrared radiation and registration of the reflection from the local brain region through the cerebral cranium. The experiments were conducted on anesthetized cats. The dependence of Pa CO2 on the recorded parameters is shown. The changes in the cerebral blood flow (in conventional units) determined by the alterations of the infrared radiation reflection are shown upon the injection of 1.2 microgram/kg, 2.5 micrograms/kg and 5 micrograms/kg of noradrenaline.

[Detection of pulmonary tuberculosis in adolescents in institutions of the general medical network and efficacy of its treatment].

Altogether 100 adolescents with TB detected on referral to general medical institutions were followed up. 30 patients with a clear-cut TB clinicoroentgenological pictures were referred to special hospitals. The rest 70 adolescents were followed up in general outpatients departments. The chief method of prehospital diagnosis verification was inefficacy of previous antiinflammatory therapy. 51 patients were not examined for tuberculosis (tuberculin test, chest x-ray, sputum investigation for tubercle bacilli, phthisiologist's consultation, etc.). Clinical evaluation showed that 47% had had previous contacts with tuberculosis patients, 33% demonstrated hyperergic sensitivity to tuberculin, in 21% the disease coincided with intensification of tuberculin reactions, 55% isolated tubercle bacilli. Initiated antituberculosis therapy alleviated the disease course in most of the patients. However, late diagnosis resulted in the formation of noticeable residual changes in a considerable proportion of patients. The results obtained indicate the necessity of close contacts between antituberculosis service and general health service to improve the effectiveness of adolescents therapy.

[Role of biomechanical properties of blood vessels in the development of vasodilatation].

The ability to enlarge circumferentially varied in dependence on the equality of geometrical characteristics and degree of relaxation of smooth muscle in the segments of human middle cerebral artery. The most informative biomechanical parameter characterizing arterial ability to vasodilatation was found to be the parameter B. The latter was shown to change at different values of the pressure, thus determining the changes of vasoactive drugs effectiveness in different conditions.
