Instability of the bovine MOR-2AB (mitochondrial malate: NAD oxidoreductase) heterodimeric molecule of heterozygous subjects after isoelectric focusing.

The heterodimeric molecule which is characteristic of animals heterozygous for the MOR-2 polymorphism and which is readily seen on enzymograms after electrophoresis is reported to be absent from zymograms performed after isoelectric focusing. A possible explanation is presented based on monomer--dimer equilibrium at pH 8.0--8.5.

Isozyme characterization of cattle (Bos taurus) and American buffalo (Bison bison) cell cultures.

Four Bovidae cell lines (BEK-1, MDBK, Bu and EBTr) were characterized by means of enzymatic biochemical markers. Out of 15 enzymatic systems, 3--adenosine deaminase (Ada), phosphoglucomutase (Pgm) and nucleoside phosphorylase (Np)--were found to be polymorphic and quite suitable for biochemical identification of each cell line. The Bu cell line has shown a Np phenotypic pattern which could be distinctive of the Bison bison species.

Adenosine Deaminase↗

Adenosine deaminase in the pig: tissue-specific patterns and expression of the silent ADA0 allele in nucleated cells.

By means of polyacrylamide gel and cellulose acetate enzymo-electrophoresis, the authors have studied tissue-specific isozymes of adenosine deaminase in the pig; these have been correlated to the erythrocytic ABO-like polymorphism. The enzyme product of the ADA0 gene was detected in nucleated cells; the absence of the ADA0 gene product in erythrocytes was tentatively accounted for by an increased in vivo lability.

Note on a third allele in the erythrocytic NP system of cattle.

A bull ('Mercure') with an erythrocytic NP (nucleoside phosphorylase), phenotype showing a slightly higher anodal mobility has been found. His progeny data generally support the hypothesis of a third F allele in addition to the more common S and the L alleles, resulting in an ABO-like system.

Allozymic variation as an estimate of heterozygosity in Belgian pig breeds.

An electrophoretic survey of 13 enzymes corresponding to 19 loci has been carried out in Belgian Landrace and Pietrain pig breeds. Four of these enzymes have been shown to exhibit electrophoretically detectable polymorphism. The average heterozygosity per locus was found to be 0.066 in the Belgian Landrace and 0.028 in the Pietrain pigs.
