[Activation of endogenous nucleases as affected by sodium arsenate and cisplatin].

Screening of pharmaceutical agents releasing active nucleases from inactive complexes was performed. Cisplatin and sodium arsenate were shown in vitro to have such properties. Sodium arsenate which is more expedient for the treatment of human patients was studied in vivo. It was administered to albino mice in a dose of 0.2 mg/kg once a day for 6 days. Due to the release, the activity of free serum DNAse and RNAse markedly increased (1.5-2 times). Activation of endogenic nucleases is more promising than the use of exogenic enzymes in complex therapy of viral affections and rickettsiosis.

[Inhibitor participation in the regulation of serum RNAse activity in the formation of immunity against influenza].

It was shown that parenteral administration of lead ions caused in the blood serum of albino mice a significant decrease in the amount of the bound RNA-ase 1 inhibitor and a simultaneous increase in the activity of this enzyme. Consequently, this inhibitor served as a regulator of the serum RNA-ase 1 activity. A considerable increase in the amount of the bound and free RNA-ase 1 inhibitor was noted in the serum in the process of triple immunization of persons with live influenza vaccine; this was accompanied by a significant reduction of the free RNA-ase 1 activity. This indicated that along with other mechanisms the inhibitor apparently participated in the processes of formation of immunity against influenza.

[Influenza inhibitor of the host serum RNAse].

From soluble proteins of influenza A viruses the author isolated, partially purified, and concentrated an inhibitor of host serum RNase, possessing no infectivity or neuraminidase activity, having the virus-specific antigen and, apparently, a lipoprotein composition, inhibiting RNAse activity by forming a complex with the enzyme and substrate, and considered to be one of the factors of virus pathogenicity acting on the molecular level. Antigenic relationships between RNase inhibitors of hierarchically remote influenza viruses were found. Immunization of mice with the inhibitor antigen prevents inhibition of serum RNAse activity after infection, and vaccination with the inhibitor antigen in combination with whole-virion killed vaccine significantly increased the protective effectiveness of the artificial immunity in experiments. The inhibitor preparation obtained is anaphylactogenic.
