Personalizing professional goals.

Goal setting is an essential step toward personal and professional freedom. If we are interested in bringing our lives into balance so that our professional goals and personal goals are integrated, we must be willing to do the necessary work of self-discovery.

Career Choice

Private practice: the time is now.

Nurses are creative professionals who have their own expertise in delivering personalized health care. Until we establish our own autonomy within the health care system, we will continue to be misjudged and undervalued. The development of an independent nursing practice is one method of demonstrating autonomy. What is needed is proper information, positive thinking and the courage to move forward. We need to support nurses in the pursuit of autonomy for the sake of ourselves, our clients, and the health care system.

Consultants

Touching with intent: using therapeutic touch.

Nurses have always used touch in their care. Therapeutic Touch describes using touch with an intent to help. It offers nurses the opportunity to develop another dimension in their care.

Adult

Awakening the feminine spirit in nursing.

Within each of us exists the elements of the masculine and the feminine. Carl Jung first introduced these concepts in his explanation of the components of human behavior. Marion Woodman, a Jungian analyst from Toronto, has brought our attention to the imbalance of the masculine and feminine within human nature. Her work, as well as the work of Stephen Levine, has inspired the author to direct her attention to the implications for nursing.

Female
