[Maxillary sinusitis of dental origin].

A survey is given of etiology, diagnosis and treatment of maxillary sinusitis from dental origin. Periapical infection and oro-antral fistula are among the most frequent causes. Removal of the dental origin is of primary importance and sometimes the sole removal of the odontogenic cause is a sufficient therapy. On the other hand closure of oro-antral fistula without simultaneous cure of the concomitant sinusitis is of no use.

[Midfacial necrosis: a propos of 2 cases and review of the literature].

Two patients presenting the clinical characteristics of the "Lethal Midline Granuloma" are discussed. In the first case, the autopsy allowed the final diagnosis of a histiocytic medullary reticulosis (Robb-Smith). For the second patient the late evolution and the final biopsy gave the diagnosis of malignant reticulosis without further detail. These two cases prove that for a midface necrosis no final diagnosis can be obtained without an extensive clinical examination and autopsy material. There are numerous arguments to consider the "Lethal Midline Granuloma" as a clinical term which can cover several pathological entities. A classification is proposed.

The health of mother and child in rural Central Africa.

In the Great Lakes Region of Central Africa, the population suffers from severe proteo-caloric malnutrition, with adverse affects on maternal and child health. Improvement of maternal nutrition would lead to rapid consecutive pregnancies, reducing the length of time each child could be breastfed and reducing the protein available to each child. Hence, the authors recommend modern birth spacing methods in combination with programs to improve the health of mother and child.

CT findings in synovial chondromatosis of the temporomandibular joint.

The purpose of this report is to document an additional case of synovial chondromatosis of the temporomandibular joint and to present its radiological features with emphasis on the CT findings. It should be stressed that the value of the radiologic examination primarily depends on the extent of calcification of the loose, intraarticular particles.

[Leontiasis ossea: a symptom...!].

The keyword "leontiasis ossea" has no diagnostic significance. It is only a description of a symptom of bone disease with a broad variability such as Paget's disease, fibrous dysplasia, hyperparathyroïdism and condensing osteopathies. (Pyle's disease, or cranio-diaphyseal dysplasia.) The first case presented shows advanced Paget's disease with radiographic signs of maxillary bone pathology. A tooth extraction in this patient was complicated by a severe healing problem. Sequestration occurred after two years. Healing was only obtained after removal of the sequestrum. The authors believe that the healing problem was directly related to Paget's disease of maxillary bone. The second case represents a patient with hyperparathyroïdism, showing an unusual facial swelling as only physical symptom of the disease. The problem of interpretation of biopsymaterial and the occurrence of osteosclerotic appearence on X-ray are discussed. The authors suggest that a complete examination (X-ray of the skeleton, blood and urine parameters, and functionel tests) should be performed to put forward a right diagnosis in the patient, presenting leontiasis ossea.
