[Atherosclerosis: the risk factors].

A group of 196 outpatients among whom 112 non-insulin-dependent diabetics were divided into 4 subgroups according to whether they had vascular disorders or not. For statistical evaluation by means of correlation coefficient and chi-square test both risk factors (smoking, family history, arterial hypertension, BMI) and laboratory values (total and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fibrinogen, HbA1c, factor VIII, PF4, BTG) were taken into account. Our findings confirm the relevance of risk factors and the need for diabetic patients to be metabolically well balanced; PF4, BTG, and factor VII were normal in all patients which suggests that these are not suitable, as far as the present study is concerned, to be considered markers of vascular disorders. An interesting correlation was found between these factors and serum triglycerides, especially in the subgroup of diabetics with vascular disorders. An interesting finding was the increase of fibrinogen in subjects with vascular disorders especially in non-diabetics.

[Angioimmunoblastic lymphoadenopathy with dysproteinemia. A doubtful clinical case].

After a brief description of the clinical and laboratory picture of angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy with Dysproteinaemia (AILD), the case of a 49 year old woman is described. The woman died of haematemesis and with a clinical picture that originated 14 years earlier with Sjogren's syndrome that developed with modest systemic lymphadenopathy, splenohepatomegaly, autoimmune anaemia (Coombs direct positive). Histological examination of the parotid, certain lymph glands, the liver and the spleen suggested a diagnosis of proliferative lymphopathy that might have been either AIDL or low malignity NH lymphoma. The rarity of the syndrome and the clinical difficulties of accurate diagnosis are discussed.

[Behavior of blood composition in chronic liver diseases].

On the basis of data from hospitalised patients with chronic liver pathology, the relationship between the type and severity of the disease and the nature and extent of changes in blood composition was studied. It is concluded that a direct relationship exists between liver pathology and haemopathy which can be attributed to various aetiopathogenetic factors. The severity of the liver pathology is the main factor, independently of its aetiology.
