Determination of imidazole antimycotics in creams by supercritical fluid extraction and derivative UV spectroscopy.

A supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method was developed for the isolation of imidazole antimycotic drugs (miconazole, econazole, clotrimazole and bifonazole) from cream preparations. The SFE process involved static (1 min) and dynamic (4 min) extraction steps using pure and 10% methanol modified carbon dioxide. The SFE step was then followed by derivative UV spectrophotometric analysis. The method proved to be suitable for quality control assays of the examined antimycotics in commercial cream formulations.

[Transluminal urethroplasty. Preliminary experience in 15 cases].

Thirteen patients with urethral stenoses of different etiopathology underwent TUP with an angioplasty balloon catheter. At follow-up, more than 10 months later, 8 out of 10 patients had normal urinary function. Excluding cases of urethral compression due to prostatic hyperplasia, 90% of the stenoses were successfully dilated. The gradualness of the dilatation, the application of a Foley catheter to maintain the dilatation obtained and the prevention of urinary infections are important factors for the success of this method.

[Diagnostic and therapeutic value of angiography of the mesenteric area].

The widespread diffusion of digital imaging progressively reduces the indications to conventional angiography in all vascular districts. On the contrary, angiography of mesenteric arteries still works as a valid complementary diagnostic tool in granulomatous and neoplastic lesions of ileum. Today, in selected patients, angiography is the first diagnostic approach to vascular ischemic and hemorrhagic pathology of ileum; timely resort to interventional angiography improve a dramatic prognosis.

[Diagnostic possibilities of computerized tomography in primary hyperaldosteronism (author's transl)].

In 20 patients with a clinical picture of primary hyperaldosteronism (5 patients were later found to be suffering from hypertension of other origin), CT showed diagnostic precision higher than 90% in the localization of adrenal adenoma (11 out of 12). On the other hand, this examination scarcely helped in the diagnosis of uncommon gland hyperplasias (1 out of 3). In CT doubtful or negative cases, hormonal measurement in blood samples taken selectively from adrenal veins was more indicative than selective phlebography. CT can therefore be considered as an alternative to iodocholesterol scintigraphy in early diagnostic investigation in this field of pathology.
